Mr. Carrier thinks that Roflman hasn't learned enough in class... and decides to send him a letter explaining everything the class learned in school.
So it turns out that you break apart a glucose molecule during glycolysis to produce two pyruvates and a total of four ATP.
Yeah and then it can go through either oxidative respiration or fermentation depending on the level of oxygen present in your system.
And it turns out Roflman's friend Ted already knows a lot about cell respiration.
The oxidative respiration happens in the mitochondria of the cell right? So that means there has to be enough oxygen present in your system for the mitochondria to go through oxidative respiration.
And oxidative respiration means that the mitochondria will go through the Kreb's cycle to produce 6CO2 molecules. And the electronic transport chain will do its thing to produce 6H2O molecules.
And so the two become interested in biology and biochemistry and go on to build biological and chemical weapons of mass destruction.... All thanks to Mr. Carrier!!
Of course. And that will result in 36 ATP being produced for use in the body. And without oxygen the cell will go through fermentation... which mean only 2 ATP and the pyruvates will for lactic acid.
Yeah that's why your breathing will speed up when exercising. Your body doesn't have enough oxygen for oxidative respiration and that means the cells aren't producing enough ATP for your body.
