At this point, satan lifted his head above the river of flames, with his body spread leagues apart, massive as the leviathan. He was not bothered by God while in hell, and focused on his crimes.

So satan, wings outstretched, broke from hell, followed by beelzebub. Though not in hell, their torment still followed them on earth. While still cursed, the two escaped hell without God's help.
