Robert A. Millikan is born in Morrison, IL in the year of 1868 and is convinced by his Greek teacher to pursue physics.
I wonder what the mass of an electron might be...
While studying under Walther Nernst Millikan discovers that the charge of the electron is 1.602E-19 coulombs. This experiment is known as the Oil-Drop Experiment.
I am going to need charged oil to go into an electric field.
With J.J. Thomson's mass ration Millikan realizes that the mass of one electron is 9.11E-28 grams. In 1923 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for physics, 30 years later Millikan passes away.
Congratulations Mr. Millikan, you actually found the mass of an electron along with receiving a Nobel Peace Prize!
Thank you Mr. Nernst,
