In Singapore, canals and drains channel rainwater and surface runoff to reservoirs such as the Marina Reservoir, which eventually supply water to our homes.
A separate system collects used water through a network of underground sewers for treatment. The treated used water is further purified into NE Water or discharged into the sea.
Singapore is prepared for the water-short future to come and Marina Barrage plays an important role in this.
In short It recycles used water not wasting it. It collects and treats rainwater for consumption. The country will not need to rely as much as before on imported water.
If global warming affects our water supply from reservoirs, there will still be enough water for us to use.
