Intelligence can be analytic, creative or practical. IQ tests may only focus on analytic intelligence, but the other two are equally important.
Someone might not have great analytic intelligence, but they are still successful because they have excellent practical intelligence, for example.
The practical subtheory stresses cultural variation in intelligence, so the theory seems less ethnocentric than Cattell's version.
But if you define 'intelligence' as behaviour that is useful in a given situation... couldn't almost anything be classed as intelligent?
Also Sternberg's theory seems too descriptive, without telling us where or how these abilities operate in the mind
Hmmm. Maybe you're right. I'm going to go and make a triarchic theory of love instead.
