Some of the Jewish leaders brought Jesus to Pilate. They wanted Pilate to question Jesus and then sentence him to die. After they left the room, Pilate asked Jesus:
 | | |
| They accuse you of trying to be a king. Are you the king of the Jews? | |
 | | |
 | | |
| Are you asking this on your own, or have others told you this, about me? | |
 | | |
 | | |
| I am a Roman; I am not a Jew. Your own people and your high priest turned you over to me. What did you do? Why are they so upset? | |
 | | |
 | | |
| My kingdom is not what they imagine a kingdom to be. My kingdom doesn’t consist of jewels and crowns and material riches, the things you see and have around you. | |
 | | |
 | | |
| So are you a king or not? Answer me plainly. | |
 | | |
 | | |
| What do you think? I am here to witness to the truth. That is why I was born and why I came into this world. Everyone who seeks the truth and longs for the truth listens to me. | |
