Yes he can. But then it goes back to the House and the Senate. If they still want it to become a law, they hold another vote.
He can also pocket veto it. And if Congress is in session, the bill automatically becomes a law after 10 days. But, if it's not, it doesn't.

Then why don't we override all the presidential vetoes?
It is a lot harder than it sounds. You have to have 2/3 of both House and Senate to support the bill. Fewer than 10% of all presidential vetoes have ever been overridden.
