A first-year teacher in a New England Junior high school spent long hours after school preparing lessons and working with his students.

 | | |
| "You may not want to work with female students after hours Mr. Smith. You may get your fingers burned!", said Ms. Hand. | |
 | | |
 | | |
| Mr. Smith just smiled and ignored the secretary's advice. | |

Within a week, the principal called the teacher in for a conference.
 | | |
| "I'd like to suggest when providing extra help to the students you have both male and female students present", said Mr. Klein. | |
 | | |
 | | |
| "With all due respect Mr. Klein, I can handle my students; and strongly object to Ms. Hand's complaints", said Mr. Smith. | |

 | | |
| "You're new here and I can understand your concern. But what you have to learn is that Ms Hand is more than a secretary. She knows this school better than I do. Follow her advice and you'll do fine." | |
