I was aware that Indie meant only one thing, that you were INDEPENDANT. Meaning you were *not* signed to a record label. What annoys me is that the indie bands I hear about are mostly on little indie labels. "Indie Label" in itself is a contradiction! Sorry, I just don't understand an entire scene that is supposedly based on independance from record labels, yet contradicts itself and bases it's bands on a sound. Technically, all of the music around here is "Indie", since few bands are signed to record labels.
There are a lot of things in music that are excusable, but pretentiousness, in my opinion, isn't. If you want to base your shit on independance, do it. If you want to bitch about elitism, don't be elitist. Don't be a hypocrite. I'm not saying everyone is, I'm saying the people here are.
Also, I don't see how you got the idea that I said only one person can like the type of music he or she likes if said person is indie out of what I said. I meant that I don't see how someone can truly be about independance when everyone listens to this emo stuff... Doesn't make sense to me. You'd expect to have peopel who like metal, punk, rap, techno, country, gospel, R&B, all that stuff in an indie scene. The fact is, whenever I talk to indie people, they like the same style of "punk" sounding music. NO variety in musical taste. I'm not saying that in itself is a horrible thing, but not when your supposed beliefs contradict it.
I'm a metal head. I like metal. I like many other things, but I like metal over other things.
