I grew up in Sherwood Forest, less than a mile from those apartments. Fort Sherwood, I think they were called then. My best friend lived there awhile. But it was a very different neighborhood then. I know I have at least one snapshot of that place around here somewhere.
We'd cross the canal next door and go to K-Mart (God knows what the building is now) and get shopping carts and crash them into the canal.
Seems they're called "Summer Grove Condominiums" now. WTF? Same buildings too, according to the satellite pic.
All my pizza delivery time (and there was a lot of it) was served in the LSU environs and points S/SE all the way out to Burbank and Siegen. Except for McKinley, Scotlandville, and Mall City, I'd say these were the worst neighborhoods in town. Actually most of Mall City moved to the GSRI area... exactly at the time I was working and living there.
I also lived right off McKinley in a few places.
These were all places where you'd hear the shots and see the murderer run away almost close enough to jump out and trip him. Then later you'd go out and look for brass on the ground and bullet holes in the wall.
Also lived in the Irish Channel in NOLA next door to a crack bar and felt safer.
