Back on subject; its well known that the American public have no idea whatsoever about subtlety. All comedy has to be easy to understand - dumb comedy in other words.
Whereas British comedy has an air of sophistication, whereupon the viewer maybe has to think for a few seconds before the brain translates it into the language known as 'funny'.

England is just a bitter country that is constantly going over past glories not noticing how unpopular that makes them.

That's not true - in fact that's the best thing about Britain - the way we can take the piss out of ourselves. Americans take themselves so fucking seriously its sad. Either that or they hate their country and everything it stands for.

I just like how this thread started about being about humor, and into "My country is better then yours argument". I also find it funny how the population of Brits hate Americans when our countries have a strong econmic and military relationship. What's the matter? Pissed off at the Braveheart and Patriot movie? Meh, take it out on Mel Gibson, but don't hurt his pretty face.

And isn't The Simpsons uber popular over in Britian. And as for this "sophistication". What about Benny Hill? That was some of the dumbest shit I have ever seen. Him putting on helmets and pretending their tits, or getting chased after a mob with silly music playing in the backround at the end of every episode. American humor is more crude, but how does that mean it's less funny? It just makes it more shocking and suprising.

And Frank Spencer. "Oooh Betty, I just shat myself in public." That is hardly the epitome of sophisticated comedy.

Sienfield was a great show. You have to be a part of American society to truely understand its comedic value (from the posts you made I got the impression you're not in the states).

Sure it was silly, and it was a show about nothing. But it prided itself in that. And that's why I liked it. It didn't get caught up in stories with morals and all that crap. It just delivered the goods.

Well, in Canada "This hour has 22 minutes" has a segment called: Making fun of Americans. That is when Rick Mercer goes to America and asks people questions about Canada. Questions that are fake, like: The Americans do not even know that Canada has provinces, not states. And he told them that Canadians hunt rhinos with timbits. ha! And they believe it. It just shows that America only cares about themselves and don't know anything about anyone else.

No, we just don't care about Canada. :P

I like Canada, and they have comedy very similar to the British stuff. They should just take America in an aggressive coup. They won't be expecting that.
