You have no idea.It actually works fine for one text string at a time. I keep thinking I'll go back and write some fancy inclusion and exclusion stuff, but then I start thinking about people being able to track down all the comics with nasty words in them on the site and sending me e-mail to delete them all for the good of humanity. Then I think about something else.

Short of them being libellous (sic) , i cant see why anyone would want comics taken down. Apart from the shit , unfunny newbie ones , that just take up disk space and bandwidth.

My thoughts are that this is Brad's site and it's a labor of love and if Brad doesn't want to add a search function, he shouldn't. One day, maybe he'll impulsively put one together and offer it. Until then, we'll cope.

One of the fun things about reality is that people's definitions of what constitutes libel vary tremendously. I get lots of e-mails demanding that such-and-such comic be taken down. Here are the top four types of requests I get of that nature:

1. "A word that offends me was written in a comic on your site. Please delete the comic immediately." (A threat to sue or report me to 'the authorities' if I fail to comply is optionally added.)

2. "An idea or a joke that offends me was expressed or written in a comic on your site. Please delete the comic immediately." (A threat to sue or report me to 'the authorities' if I fail to comply is optionally added.)

3. "A user on your site continually makes comics that offend me. Please ban him and delete all of his comics immediately." (A threat to sue or report me to 'the authorities' if I fail to comply is optionally added.)

3. "I have written a comic that may offend people who I care about. I don't want the comic to hurt their feelings. Please delete the comic immediately." (A threat to sue or report me to 'the authorities' if I fail to comply is optionally added.)

The main things that seem to upset people are slurs or tasteless jokes regarding race and religion. Go figure.

I really don't mind the requests for features (especially the ones that are reasonable). I like to know what you guys want because it's enjoyable to add new things and have people use them and have fun with them. I get a big kick out of that. But I've got a huge list of features and bug fixes and small improvements I'd love to add -- not a day goes by that I don't think of something I want to change or add -- but I've only got so much time.

If you guys want the search engine though, I'll move it up on the list of priorities and see what I can do.

I'm not sure how much use I would get from the search engine, but if it's what you want then go ahead. I'm sure it would be handy occasionally. I can see where you would get a bit freaked by people using it to turn up lists of comics they hate and want removed, though.

So tell me, how many times have some of the actual regulars on the forums here been "brought to your attention" as constantly offensive?

I've said it before, and I'm sure this won't be the last time I say it, but thank you for actually hosting this place and putting up with all the crap you doubtless go through as webmaster of a popular site. I certainly appreciate it.

Honestly the threats don't frighten me or anything. I've never deleted a comic that someone has complained about and I have no plans to. (Though I have thought about deleting older, dumber and hardly ever visited comics to free up some space.) It's just irritating, like they're throwing a tantrum and I'm supposed to deal with it for some reason.

"Freaked" is probably too strong a word. "Annoyed" and maybe "surly" are better words.

I really have no idea. When people send me complaints they usually enclose the URL to the offending strips and I almost never bother to look at them. I also often stop reading e-mails I get that begin with some sort of expression of moral outrage. I often have lots more outrage to sort through and the moral kind is the type I never, ever reply to, so it's really a waste of time.

Thank you. All my bitching and moaning aside, I do actually enjoy running the site. As I said above, I really get a kick out of you guys and it makes me very happy and proud whenever I read threads where you guys are enjoying yourselves with this toy I made.

Particularly awesome are the things I didn't expect like the comic contests and the movies/bands in three panels and the other ideas that I really had nothing to do with creating other than providing the StripCreator. That stuff's super-mega-cool.

So I get to feel a bit like Santa Claus and it's a lot of fun. I only wish that bandwidth were free and that the site paid a salary so that I could spend all my time expanding and improving it.

Man, one beer and I get all chatty and sappy. I'm going to bed.

"I want you to stop harassing me or i will bring a court case for you stalking me via the internet".

Either that , or i would explain how im going to hunt them down and remove their intestines with a table fork.
