However, I don't know what these four have in common that distinguishes them from the others.

I thought it might be 2 and that this strip was iffy on it, because it wasn't used as a place name, but the second fully compliant strip disproves this.

I disagree. Aesoporiphic breaks rule 8, because it has no simile in it. "Hotter than Seven of Nine" is a straightforward comparison between two similar things, and I think this is the closest thing to a simile that this strip has.
