Boy...this is all a hefty discussion. Here is my "two-cents" (I may make at least ONE good point). Let me start with this, all the "facts" in the long conspiracy theory can all be explained or proven simply false, but I guess that's why it makes it a theory. While I am sometimes willing to go along with a sound conspiracy theory, I think that this one is a whole bunch of malarky, to be PG.

Despite all this, and Despite the perpetrator (who I whole heartedly believe wasn't the USA.) I have to state that no one in this forum convo bothered to step back and say, wait a minute; despite who may have cause this tragic disaster, it killed and injured countless numbers of people. (Bear with me, this has a point). They are still getting count revisions to this day. My point is this, all those Americans dead, and every politician(who I do NOT trust as far as i can throw them) and official in the US stood beside the "commonwealth" and helped in any way possible becuase they recognized the scale of this tragedy. To add to my point, if a US conspiracy is to blame, then their had to have been politicians and officials in on it. I believe, that no matter how crooked a politician in the USA is, he has to have some feeling of duty to his country to even choose the profession. That being said, the way ALL the politicians acted was too real to be a cover-up (I am an actor mind you so I can usually tell a fake job). They all felt genuine heartbreak and sorrow for the nation. Therefore, I don't believe, as much as I may disagree with their tactics, that a US government agency or group of officials could kill so many American citizens and then turn around and offer the help, guidance, and support that our nations government did. I know a retort will be, "well the government faked sorrow for Kennedy and Pearl Harbor." If you actually look at the sentiment surrounding those incidents, it IS different than what happened after 9/11 which everyone here witnessed. Very few if any of us witnessed first-hand the sentiment after the Kennedy assasination and Pearl Harbor, but if you know your history, you will discover the differences. I hope I was somewhat clear in my statements and I apologize for being INCREDIBLY long winded.

It's always fun to laugh at people in power and poke, prod, and pick at their fallbacks. It's no fun to laud the other guy, because without dissention, where would this country be? We'd all be happy, intelligent people searching for something besides political discontent. That would be disgraceful.
If I remember correctly, this country was FOUNDED on political differences. Why, if the pilgrims hadn't disagreed with the king, our country would never have been made! We'd all still be eating tea and crumpets. Having two sides work for a less trivial cause is infantile and moronic.

Then again, they might have come here anyway and started a new British colony, making "America" just another little country with weird customs. And a different name.

I'm sure you're right that a number of politicians are in the job because of a desire to help people. But with that kind of attitude, they're not going to get very far.
Over here, the government was already plotting how to make political capital out of the massacre before the first tower fell - shortly before the Prime Minister went on TV to put on his "concerned" face and go on about how awful it all was. Most of these people may indeed feel some sympathy for the victims, but that's outweighed by the gains they're going to make themselves.

Why not? Even if they had engineered it themselves (which, I agree, is very unlikely), they would hardly laugh and joke about it in front of the cameras, would they?

Andy, In your opinion is Blair still acting like Bush's lapdog? I have not heard if he is opposing this insane war that is being planned against Iraq.

As you probably know the US press is very poor at covering events in other countries. (apart from single sided reporting about the Palestinian/Israeli conflict.)

For example when President Fox of Mexico recently said the best way to be the drug problem was to legalize drugs (thus eliminating the drug mafias) it was not covered on any US television news or in any of the major US newspapers to my knowledge.

On another point, my tirade against Bush was not an endorsement of Clinton. The democrats talk the talk but don't deliver. Sadly the Green Party is shut out of the political discourse completely by the big money behind the republicans and democrats.

Skaboy, I think I agree with you, but could you cut out all the superfluous words and phrases and sentences like, "bear with me here, I have a point to make?" Of course you have a point to make.

So yeah, this idea that Washington did this to us is a little far-fetched, and yes, their sanctimonious wailing over their own suffering seems genuine. Hypocritical, but genuine, and justified.

Underneath the conspiracy theories, however, there may lurk a certain truth, which is that Washington has let us in for this type of attack. (Bear with me here. I have a point to make.) I don't imagine Trent Lott rubbing his hands together and going "Mwahahahaaaa, soon the Trade Center shall fall, and America shall be ours!" But still, we speak routinely of (for example) "US interests" in the Persian Gulf. The US has an "interest" in the national resources of Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, just to name a few.

Here's the key: Is there such a thing as "Mideast interests" in the Gulf of Mexico? I think not. Can China claim an "interest" in the USA's strategic oil reserve? The mere suggestion would take us to at least Defcon 2.

One word for US policy: hypocrisy. No conspiracy theory necessary.

But I will say that I am glad you agree with me, but dont you think the comments about MY superfluous remarks were in themselves superfluous and irrelevant to the forum? I won't start an argument in here about something irrelevant to the topic, but i think the rest of the parenthesized sarcasm was unnecessary and a little uncalled for.
