When you buy a new TV, the manual that comes with it doesn't have a whole shitload of instructions like "do not throw your TV out of the window, do not take your TV into the shower, urinating on the TV will not make the picture any clearer".

I really fail to see how any person claiming themselves to be a Christian can rape a child and then blame the Pope for not explaining the rules properly.

I'm pretty sure that those of you arguing that the Pope is to blame for these things are the same people who laugh at politicians for blaming gun violence on Marilyn Manson. Just because a catholic rapes a kid it doesn't mean the fact he was a catholic had anyting to do with it. People are fucked up, end of story.

Actually... yes it does, unfortunately. Look, the majority of Priests are good, kind-hearted people, but there is an undeniable epidemic of Catholic priests molesting kids. Yet, you don't see this same epidemic when you look at Muslim Imams... Or Jewish Rabbis... or even Protestant priests. This is due to the fact that unlike Protestant clergy, these Catholic priests have to make a vow of celibacy. So you then get a priest who is so fucked up from 40 odd years of sexual frustration that he starts molesting his alter boys. Celibacy for those who wear the frock is an incredibly draconian and outdated law and "keeping with tradition" isn't worth the thousands of kids that are scarred each year by this shit. If the Vatican really wants to get mainstream acceptance, they need to do two things IMO... (1) tell people it's okay to wear a damn condom... and (2) get rid of the celibacy shit. That's it. Really.

Let's put it this way. If you were to tell me that some crazy cult leader in middle-America told all his followers to tie bricks to their penises and jump into the sea in order to gain salvation, I'd tell you they deserved to drown for being so stupid.

I don't see why this larger brainwashing cult is suddenly more acceptable or less moronic. If you have to be told by someone that child fucking is wrong or that fucking anyone else whilst you are infected with a deadly virus is wrong then you deserve whatever stupid fate befalls you.

I don't think we need to address the AIDS issue or the child molestation issue, there's clearly a worldwide stupidity issue that no-one seems to care about.

If you are saying that Guy A harmed someone (let's call him Guy A1) and so Guy B copied him by harming Guy C, then yes, Guy A is at fault (but only for harming Guy A1) and Guy B is an idiot.

Who knows why people molest kids, you seem to have it in your head that it's only priests or people copying priests. Priests don't even take up the majority of child molestors, I think you'll find that in most child abuse cases the guilty party is at least one parent.

I could just as easily say that pedophiles are all either scout leaders or boys that were molested by their scout leaders.

I never said that. Please don't put words in my mouth. But you asked if the number of children molested each year would go down if priests were allowed to marry and I gave you an honest answer. Yes. I don't know by what percent. Maybe less than one. But if even one kid doesn't get some old fuddy-duddy fuck in a frock sticking his hand down his pants than it was worth it.

Perhaps. I don't have any statistics off-hand to verify that one way or the other, but I wouldn't be surprised. Unfortunately, there's not a lot that can be done about fucked up parents, but there is something we can do about sexually frustrated Priests.

Once again, I never said all priests were child molestors. In fact if you look at one of my earlier posts I said that the vast majority are good kind-hearted people.

You're right he probably never said "fucking kids is okay". But he also went to lengths to prevent priests who fucked kids being found out. It's not far-fetched to take that as a sign that, while he may not exactly "support" it, he didn't think it was that big a deal.

There are many, many problems with the Catholic church and you all seem to be under the wrong impression that I am actually defending them. Nothing could be further from the truth, the point I am making is that if you do something stupid and wrong, you are stupid and wrong regardless of wether someone told you to do it or not.

But now that the Pope is dead, I guess all the AIDS and child molesting problems will stop immediately, what with him being completely responsible for it all.
