I got a job for the sole purpose of paying for my trip to the US. Unfortunately, I now have gotten it into my head that I am coming back next year and bringing Bec with me, so it looks like I'll have to get another job. Damn this evil monetary cycle! When will I be free of your tyranny? When???
*ahem*
Anyway, hopped off the train this morning in Portland, Oregon, after roughly fifty hours of travel (I did a lot of reading - four Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy books and half a new fantasy novel) and I was greeted by a very nice young lady named Katrina in a Felix the Cat t-shirt. Katrina is the wife of Edward, the director of this movie I helped to make. She became my lifelong friend by taking me home and giving me access to a shower and sandwich-making facilities. I have now met Edward, too, and I can honestly say that I have excellent taste in e-friends - not one wanker in the bunch, so far. From D.C. to Oregon, all I have met have been really cool people.
The film festival starts tonight, and the movie I helped to make premieres tomorrow night.
Gabe has said he will be coming up to Portland for that, and he doesn't know it yet but I plan to hide in his car and go back to his place Friday night. I figure it will be a hoot if I jump out and shout "BOO!" while he's driving around a hairpin bend halfway up a mountain. I don't know if any of the rest of you are in the Portland area, but please come and say "G'day!" in a strangled quasi-Aussie accent if you want. I will groan loudly and possibly slap you, but after that I am sure we will get on fine.
Oh, I should also send out a quick thank you to pita and bunnerabb for their recent hospitality. You are a dudette and a dude of the highest order of magnitude, and it sucked majorly to say goodbye to you. (That includes you too, Joel!)
