Whenever I print my comics, the backgrounds never come up. Why is this? Does god hate me?

How could god hate my printer? It goes to Tech Church every Sunday and says a Hail Mary twice a day... four times when fishing!

It is not the rituals themselves... remember, if your heart doesn't mean it, God will know. Your printer's heart might not be in the right place and needs to figure this out and repent.
