New Mexico has been graced with some real gems when it comes to musicians. Miguel Alexandro Velasquez, Al Hurricane, Tony C 'de Baca, Freddie Chavez. Just to name a few.
Al Hurricane started singing at an early age, approximately 3 years old, and started playing the guitar at 5 years old. His Mom showed him how to play a song on one string of the guitar. When his Dad came home, Hurricane showed him what he had learned and his Dad said, "very good mi hito, now let me show you how to play the song on two strings." Soon after he and his two goot friends, Tony & Mike, were jamming out behind the carne seca stand in Ojo Sarco, NM.
One day, Tony's uncle cam to him with some bald tires from his 1962 Chevy Impala, candy apple red with twice pipes, and asked him to get rid of tires. So like any good reservation boy Tony quickly threw them on the top of his mothers house to help keep the galvanized roof on when it got real windy. But his uncle returned with more bald tires, Tony had assumed that his uncle had ignored the warnings he had received and was doing burn-outs outside the local middle school again. Any-who, with his mothers roof securely weighted down with the previous load of tires the trio decided to dawn them around their necks, or so the legend goes. Soon they were known across the land and were instantly recognizable by their signature tire neck.
