Definitely buggy, often slow when a sim gets full.

I find the biggest bottleneck is hardware, though. You need a kickin' system and a great 3-D card to handle it.

It's been great for us though. My wife is disabled so getting out is tough for her (not physically impossible but pain meds make driving chancy sometimes).  SL has given her back some of her social life and a fair simulation of mobility. We are able to "do" stuff "together" in SL without a lot of the pressure she felt to do stuff when she didn't feel well.

We had a romantic Valentines day in SL. We explored Paris, shopped in Rome, and explored a tropical island. I'll post some pictures if I can.

After finally severing my addiction to World of Warcraft, now I've gone and downloaded Second Life. If I get addicted to this I'm punching you in the nose.

I wouldn't call it crap. It was actually pretty fun. I enjoy roleplaying games to begin with, and being able to play them online with other people was pretty nifty. I'm reminded of my dorky high school years playing D&D with friends.

The problem I had was that when you start you need to pick what sort of server you want to play on. There's two opposing sides; the Horde and Alliance. On PVP servers you're free to beat the crap out of one another, but on PVE servers you can't touch each other.

I was never really all that into PVP play (probably since I sucked at it) and certain times it got really frustrating being ganged up on by people on the other side from you.

Also, if you get together with bigger groups to take on the big dungeons it can suck up tons of time. It's pretty difficut to get 20-40 people to stick around for 3-4 hours at a shot all at the same time.

There were some pretty cool people I played with, too. It's kinda like IMing with someone, only at the same time you can run around in a virtual world and kill virtual things with a virtual stick.

I was briefly a member of the Patriotic Negras before the sweeping clan ban that took out a lot of the group. I used to drop Mario Mosh Pit and shoot this giant awesome sperm that bounced off walls before my dude got banhammered. Bigglesmic Kidd had a duped IP though, and later I had an extremely short stint as Chupacabra Kidd, flying over the skies of the newbies area spamming, "I STAND FOR GOODNESS" and dropping character-sized walls with the Jolly Green Giant on them.

I don't know if he's banned or not.

Maybe I should just make someone new.

Okay, here's the deal.  

My wife was complaining that wherever she went in SL, guys were hitting on her. Not just at clubs but if she was walking around, shopping etc.

Well, I wanted to see. Was it as bad as she said? How tought is it for a woman in SL? So I created Buffi. After I created her I immediately went around and got her a new free shape, skin, clothes, and hair to set her apart from the default. I didn't put much thought into it, except that she had to look like she had been around SL for more than a day.

Then Buffi hit the clubs. She would show up and didn't initiate conversations with anyone in particular, just danced and waited for someone to IM her.

And then it happened. She got hit on. By another woman.

As she was walking around by herself later she was hit on by another woman.

Later, she was sitting in a camping area (places where they pay you to sit around) and (you guessed it) the girl sitting next to her hit on her.

No guys hit on her at all that night. And I do mean she was hit on, like "Let's go someplace" and initiating make-out animations. (Should have gotten pics of that).

So... as a guy... somehow I randomly designed a great lesbian.

A co-worker insists that it is her look. The short hair, the clothes. I plan to find out what will happen if she gets big hair and wears a skirt. One of her suitors (suitettes?) gave her a better skin.

I also have a character who is a beach bum midget. He engages people he has never met before in coversation as if they were long lost friends. "Bud? Is that you? I haven't seen you in AGES! Are you still with old what's her name?" You'd be surprised how often people play along. If they don't, I play the "You saved my life in the Nam and that Agent Orange must have affected your memory" card.
