Actually, most of us have nothing against newbies at all. There are some exceptions, but they usually fit into the next category: arseholes. Yeah, we tend to dislike arseholes. The illusion of rampant newbie-bashing tends to arise because regulars are usually more tolerant of annoying behaviour by a regular than they are of annoying behaviour by a newbie. Also, annoying newbies are made to feel unwelcome, and usually won't stick around long enough to become annoying regulars.
That said, if you behave and make a positive contribution to our community, most of us won't have a problem.
The interesting thing is that most thoughtless newbie-bashing seems to be carried out by other recent arrivals. Some see to think that belittling others will elevate themselves. It doesn't work, of course...
