BMW Films

Anyone else seens these? They're pretty cool. BMW gave a bunch of moolah to some big name directors to come up with 6-7 minute mini-movies to show off their cars.

They all feature Clive Owen as this dark, mysterious driver who is a cross between James Bond and Jeff Gordon. There are four out so far with another one coming soon.

The latest one is directed by Guy Ritchie and features as a guest star his good lady wife Madonna. This one is without a doubt the funniest so far. The other ones were more dark and moody.

Anyhoo, if you've got a fast connection handy they're worth checking out. They're about 25MB for a low-quality and 75MB for high-quality.

And for everyone of you that buys a BMW I get a free toaster. So load up.

I tried to rent "Lock Stock..." for Father's day but it was out. Golly, what is "Snatch" about?

That kicks ass. I have to go turn the commentary on, now. I think I've watched the Ritchie film about eight times now. I love driving flicks, and I'm all about squealing tires and fast cars. Especially when Madonna is getting whacked around in the back seat.

I went back and watched everything with the commentary on. Ang Lee's son was the little Buddha from Chosen. Little nepotism never hurt.

Did you hear Ritchie say how that enormous leap that 3 series in his film did wrecked the car? Apparently after it landed it stopped working. I'm sure the folks at BMW were miffed.

But not as miffed as when Frankenheimer wrecked half a dozen 7-series. They had to cut the fucking roof off one just to get good inside shots. Think they'd let me have it when they're done?

For those who have not yet enjoyed the wonderful treat that is Guy Ritchie's movies, Lock Stock and Snatch are fantastic. The former is a bit more accessible - it has some violence, but more of it is implied, and the "good guys", such as they are, never really hurt anyone. Snatch is a lot darker and has more on-screen violence, and some people who are meant to be regarded as "good" do some nasty things. Even so, both are extremely funny, full of quotable dialogue, and have complex plotlines, intricate character interaction, and huge casts. Lock Stock is one of my favourite films - I bought an ex-rental last year, and I watch it every two months or so. I have only seen Snatch once, but I plan to buy it at the earliest opportunity and watch it to death as well.

Oh, they both have fantastic soundtracks, too.
