This middle class system is a load of rubbish!!!

What society condemns, the subculture praises!

The apparently pointless acts of destruction gain the boys subcultural prestige and allow them to gain some revenge on the system which failed them.

Now all the pupils who have books and their P.E kits can have a merit mark! Those who haven't you can have detention!
But my Dad was made redundant, thats not fair! I'm gonna meet people like me and show this punk what we can do!

French analysied classroom interation and found that boys and girls recieved the same amount of academic attention however boys only recieved more attention because they recieved more warnings.
It's so unfair that you got to go on that trip and i didn't.
The only reason you didn't get to go was because you threw a waterballoon at the teacher.
Swann found gender differences in communication style. Boys dominate in class discusions whereas girls prefer pair work. This may explain why teachers respond more posatively to girls.

Jackson (1998) shows introduction of league tables which place a high value on academic has improved oppurtunities for girls.

yes i am going to do some sociology revision because i need to get a B to study it at Barking Abbey.
Boys maybe seen as liability sudents -obstacles to the school improving its league table scores. They give the school a "rough ,tough" image that deters high achieving girls from applying.
There is no point of me going to the library anyway i know Barking Abbey wont accept me

High achieving girls are attractive to schools where as low achieving boys are not .This tends to create a self-fulfilling prophercy because girls are more likely to be recruited by good schools.
