Awkward Silence is a technique found often in comics. It tradtionally works best in the second panel, but occasionally works well in the other two.
It is an outstanding way to show that there are no words to describe what the character is thinking, or perhaps he is too stupid to come up with said words.
It also is a common way to take a comic that would better work as a two-paneller and write it as an equally-good three-paneller, so it can be posted on Stripcreator.
