I'm thinking about redesigning the front page. If anybody has any serious suggestions for what they'd like on it, I'd love to hear them.

Right now I'm thinking about getting rid of the last 20 comics by non-donors and the comics made yesterday and just putting links to the new "all comics page" at http://www.stripcreator.com/comics/

What that's replaced with, I'm not sure. I'd like to put the top rated comics on there somewhere:

http://www.stripcreator.com/toprated.php

But other than that I'm open to suggestion.

boobies! (aka I have no ideas) But taken off non-donor comics would make me feel more special as a donor.

I agree with the "If it aint broken, dont fix it" thing. I hate when sites have radical redesigns (I'll use Hotmail as my most recent example). But it is your choice, so whatever you think is best.

I agree with that too, about web sites changing.

While on the one hand I agree about radical overhauls not being a good thing usually, on the other hand I think that comics.php is better than "all comics posted yesterday" and thus the former should replace the latter. I don't see what you'd gain from deleting the last 20 non-donors though.

Ok, I think we should keep the top 20 donor comics where it is.

I think we should make only the most recent news post show up, and make a link to "old news posts"

Below the news posts I think there should be:

"Random 5 toprated comics this week"
[5 comics titles with links]
[More toprated comics] <--- goes to list

Then, below that:

"Random 5 unrated comics this week"
[5 comics titles with links]
[More random comics] <--- random.php

I think this would be a good change. There aren't too many other non-graphical or organization-related things I would change.

Unless you wanted to save on number of comics in the front page. If that were true, I'd replace the "all comics from yesterday with a thing similar to the above with:

"Random 5 comics from yesterday"
[5 comics titles with links]
[All comics from yesterday] <-- leads to a page which is exactly like that all comics from yesterday on the front page.

Hey I just got an idea, what if that page for the "all comics from yesterday" had the ability to select the date. So like, we could view all comics posted on christmas 2003, or new years, or my birthday, because everyone celebrates that, right?!

The front page of a comic creation site could show a comic, like, perhaps the top rated, or, well, that's all I got.

I tend to like the changes suggested, but I'm not sure about getting rid of the last 20 by non-donors.

I do think that getting rid of the "all comics made yesterday" display would be a great benefit and probably lighten the load on your site considerably. I'd also LOVE to have a top rated comic .php function, truly.

Also, I do miss the old "random comic on the front page" mechanic.

Maybe you could make an index. Like users classified by alphebetical order.

The random comic thing sounds great, too.

I think you should put random animated gifs. And a picture for the background. And a midi player. And uhhh... put in that html code that lets pictures go flying around.

It'll be really kewl that way!!

I like the idea of having a random comic on the front page as well. If you decide to do that, you'd be consolidating the "stripcreator" and "random" links into one, so could delete the random link, making room for a toprated link.

Another neat thing for the front page would be a listing of users currently in stripcreator chat. (Though I have no idea how hard that would be to do.)

I'd like that feature as well, as I could avoid joining the chat when Rabid_Weasle was on (haha, kidding), but I also have no idea how hard that would be.

how about having display the actual comic (instead of just a link) of the last comic made by donor(s) and the last one made by non-donor(s). just an idea.

It'd be on the right side in a small list sidebar

So like there would be two columns, the normal column with newest 20 comics.... and the right column which is the gray bar, but instead of having one news post after the other, it'd have the first news post, and then under that it'd all the things I listed.

Instead of random 5 top comics it could do "top 5 comics", right now there aren't enough ratings for this to matter.

Random 5 comics could be updated daily and could be "random 5 comics of the day" or something."

Say brad, it's not a front page suggestion, but the toprated.php reminded me of something. Can you possibly reinstate the ability for us to see how well our individual strips are doing in terms of ratings? Not that I think many (if any) people have rated mine, given the lower profile I keep nowadays, but I'm still curious.

Well, the top-rated comics is a good idea, but I neither rate comics nor see that others rate mine.
