I have been advised by a few people to talk about the verbal harassment I have been recieving in the #Stripcreator IRC ... thingie... that we have been using lately. I am not saying that it is specific to IRC, for that would probably result in the re-taking away of... But basically what I'm trying to say is, I would like this harassment to stop. I won't name names YET, but if it continues I will not be afraid to speak out against who's doing it. Those of you should know who you are, and I'm most definitely asking that you stop.

The end.

What sort of statements would qualify as verbal harrassment? I think we should know so we can be sure not to be offensive.

don't worry about being offensive, biped. it's when people get personal there is an issue.

Kitty, I apologize and would just like to say I hope I didn't offend you. It was meant simply in jest, but I can see how you are offended. This harassment was uncalled for and I apologize.

I should have known better.

All I have to say about this is that it's perfectly acceptable for me to greet say, boorite, with the salutation

"All right there, you god fucking cuntwad?"

but I definitley wouldn't greet my maiden aunt or my aikido instructor that way. It's different for each individual.

Please learn to respect how far each individual can be wound up before "the line" is crossed.

Thankyou.

We're crossing into that area again where you have to decide wether it's easier for the idividual who is being offended to leave than to tell the majority to stop being offensive.

We'd soon tell someone with an aversion to ass-raping robots where to go before inviting them into the group.

Its not like the line is that short with me... To have been here for almost a year and have been on IRC for almost as long, there's no way I could have a line right in front of my feet. BUT, its the people that continually cross that line even after I ask them to stop that are making me uncomfortable.

And in agreement with Kajun, maybe I should just leave. That way, they can have someone else to harass.

You're putting words in my mouth, Kitty.

That being said, there seems to be a difference between the way some people want to be treated and the way they treat others.

I still demand proof before I take anyone's side.

I don't see Kajun ever telling anyone to leave like that, especially you, kitty. It just seems like what constitutes 'crossing the line' depends on your mood. Which is a girl thing, and I understand, but it's frustrating as shit for obnoxious motherfuckers like me.

Eep. Okay, apologies for Kajun, as I did not mean what I had said that way... Urgh. I hate opening my mouth and saying things that can be taken in many different ways.

Okay, anyway, Mikey, its not the mood that I'm in that changes how far the line is from being crossed. Its how far you take things. Well, not JUST you. Regardless, I have asked you to stop with some things a few times, and you have not, which makes me uncomfortable. I've tried to curb said feelings before (hence random bouts of me not talking for half an hour or more).

Now that this has been said, and is out there, I wish with all my heart that I could not feel this way, but I do. and I apologise to you all.

The chat changes mood very quickly depending on who is chatting, I was online and in IRC for most of Friday and Saturday, the conversations rapidly changed from a lengthy debate on immigrant workers, to the history of language to me shaving my pubes to oral sex to comics (believe it or not). Yesterday everyone dissapeared around the same time and it was just FTC and chooby chatting about football. Boinky was there and didn't like the conversation as he didn't know what they were talking about so kept butting in with random lines about raping emus until eventually FTC picked up on this and the football chat stopped (as did any chat for the next hour).

It would probably have been easier for boinky to just ride the conversation out until there was something he had to say, or if it was a conversation that was making him particularly uncomfortable, left.

I'm not saying LEAVE FOREVER OMG!!! no deleting of comics and mass self-pitying threads, just exactly what I said months ago when IRC was first scrapped, treat it like a party, if you're in a room and you're feeling uncomfortable, go throw up in the toilet for a while, go out in the garden and have a smoke, CLOSE THE WINDOW FOR A WHILE.

There's plenty of websites here to keep you occupied.

I didn't think kitty was dumb enough to consider what I said the other day harasment, but apparently I'm one of the people who have been doing the "harassing". Here is what happened:

[01:10:36] you could get the dog to play with you that way
[01:12:48] No, I just hang a porkchop from my neck
[01:13:43] I thought it would take more than than a porkchop to get kitty

Harassment? (No.)

MikeyG

Well, I would call that a hardcore insult. That's inferring that:

A) Kitty's a dog
B) A porkchop isn't enough to satisfy her appetite (which implies fattiness to most insecure females, which you know kitty can be)

Both are pretty insulting to a female. I don't really know what your actual implication was intended to be, but you'd have to be pretty dumb to realize that it wouldn't be taken the way I just explained by kitty.

That being taken care of, I agree with the 'treat it like a party' mentality. Unless someone is private messaging you calling you a cunt, you can ignore them pretty easily. If someone is in the room going CUNT CUNT CUNT, KITTY IS A CUNT, FUCK KAJUN IN HIS STUPID SCOTTISH ASS, BOINKY LOVES COCK, CRABBY IS SEXY and other such things, type /ignore and the username. It's pretty simple.

That's the way I meant it. And kitty obviously isn't a dog (I never met a dog who could use a computer), it was meant as a joke.

We were talking about the dog playing with someone. I meant it would take more than a pork chop to get kitty to do that. That would make her not a slut, which is a good thing.

Then why didn't you say that in the first place, dcom? When I said that it was a harsh comment, you said nothing. Whereas were you to have said that you didn't mean it in a bad way, I probably wouldn't have even started this thread.

I didn't say anything other than that because it's not my responsibility to make sure you don't take something the wrong way, and I really don't care if you do.

Im sorry, but this is 100% Stupid. He called you a "dog". If that is so offencive that you must make a thread that, if taken seriously (Like the tone you meant it.), could take away IRC after we just got it back. Not only that, but brad stated that the reason why IRC left the first time is because things like harassment, talks about drug use, and death threats are things that could get him in big trouble. Please, dont go throwing around words like Harassment when it isn't needed. This is a website for jokes, and if you cant take one (Dcom meant it as a joke) then perhaps you shouldn't go to IRC, or maybe log off when people/conversations come up that you dont feel comfortable with. Dont punish the people that enjoy IRC. I know for a fact that you knew Dcom was kidding, so there is no reason to bring SC down because you wernt in a "kidding" mood.

Can we all stop being fucking children about this? We're going to lose the chat ONCE AGAIN because people are being fucks. If you insist on insulting someone, do it over IM, email, or mayve even private messages, but try to keep the insults to gentle ribbing in chat, K?

There's a difference between offending someone and making them feel genuinely uncomfrotable. I personally think the latter is far more difficult to deal with. When people were making jokes about my hair loss, I was extremely annoyed and offended, but I bounced back. My ego's no that fragile. But if it got to the point where I couldn't even come on here without seeing four new topics about my shiny noggin, I probably would have felt a tad uncomfortable. In any case, go ahead and make bowling ball jokes about me now, I'm proud of my shiny scalp!

Anyway, can we all start acting a little more like adults now? Insult someone to your heart's content, proud of your dick and fart jokes, but when someone states that they don't like it, and want you to stop, STOP.

I agree with Mikey. If someone pisses me off or hurts my feelers in a chat room (yeah, like that ever happens), I use the wonderful power of the ignore feature.

Of course I rarely let text messages get to me because, well, it's just text. Not sticks or stones. Not Abe Vigoda farting in my fruit loops. It's just text. And I could either let it effect me, raise my blood pressure, and have an aneurysm ... or I could simply shrug it off with a simple "dumb ass" and go about my day. Frankly the latter works for me better and allows me more time for what's most important ... midget porn!
