Got to see the movie yesterday. Can't say I'm a big Michael Moore fan, but I respect the living shit out of the stuff he's put together.

Really really well done movie, and it's obviously got a leftist slant, so I can just see the slew of antiliberal bile spewing forth from MaKK.

But I truly suggest everyone sees this. It's nothing the more informed of us have not heard information-wise, but quite a few things will be put in perspective for those who view it, even the ultrainformed.

The best thing about it, without spoiling anything, is the sheer amount of true research that went into it and the documents referenced to back EVERYTHING up.

Please, see it if you really give a shit about your country. Maybe it'll give you at least a little push in the right direction.

I read the book, I don't see how a movie about book burning can be taken as a shot at Bush.

I don't really have much to add other than that I completely agree with MikeyG and that it seriously needs to be seen by as many Americans as possible. I like to consider myself fairly on top of everything and quite a number of things said in the movie still blew me away.

Sorry. Thought the first Moore movie was shit, I doubt I'll get too into this one.
Why should I waste my hard earned money on a movie that I know I'm not going to agree with, like, or even find to be well-done?

Because it's not his first movie, it talks about tons of things that most people have never even heard of, and almost every single review that I've seen of it gives it four stars.

I don't know, D/X, it doesn't exactly paint Dems in a good light either. But it's about the 9/11 fiasco and the administration's fuck-ups. There was a lot of humor in it, but I never laughed because I thought the mateial was so serious that I couldn't laugh. I don't know, I guess it isn't going to change a lot of minds.

But the thing is, some shit needs to change and it is depressing as hell to know that it won't happen in any of our lifetimes.

I saw the film about 20 minutes ago... and I have to say that this is Moore's best work to date. He's only on film for about two minutes of the entire film, and he's tied everything in way better than in Bowling for Columbine or Roger and Me. His images of Lila Lipscomb, who lost a son in Iraq, pretty much calculate what the war boils down to: loss of family. It's very moving.

It also has Bush saying, "What a great occasion to be here (at this fundraiser). To be here with the haves and the have-mores."

Oh and, "I think everyone should be encouraged to go after these terrorists, and to fight terrorism. Now watch me hit this drive." (he takes a swing at a golf ball)

I've enjoyed 95% of what Moore has released. His books are so-so but I have quite enjoyed the (slanted) documentaries.

But let's face it, most good documentaries have an axe to grind. That's why the artist made them.

Well, yeah. Moore has been extremely open about the fact that he intends to influence the American election as much as he can with his movie. I don't think he's ever claimed to make unbiased movies with no political agenda behind them.

However, none of this discounts anything said in any of his movies.

I believe that this movie was his best work to date. It seems like he didn't have enough time in the format of a movie to really detail the everything. He did, however, bring this movie to people in a way that is quite identifiable.

As for Lila Lipscomb, she was a bit dramatic. She was definitely in pain, this much is very true. But I think he captured loss of family much more succinctly with the snippet of interview with the black woman in the hallway early in the film. That, to me, was the most moving.

Exactly. Every political documentary does or should have a point to make. It also makes the film way more interesting. Believe me, if there was a non-partisan documentary coming out, it better be presented by Jerry Bruckheimer and have the best soundtrack in the world, or no one's going to see it.

I think as slanted documentaries go, this wasn't extremely slanted. Slanted AGAINST Republicans, but not FOR anyone. It does the job of telling you that Bush is horrible (which is true), the Dems have their fucking thumbs way up their asses, (which is even truer) and there needs to be an alternative.

I agree. Tho he was poking fun at Bush in a lot of spots the facts laid out in the movie are undeniable. Any person smart enough to put two and two together will see that Bush needs to lose the election. Impeach!!

I'm already seeing rebuttals of reviews of the film stating that "well at least 20% of the film was correct". 20%?? I can accept a slant on a political documentary, but when only 20% is actual fact, that just bugs the shit out of me.

That's what you get for believing reviews of a movie without seeing them. A mistake I've already quite publicly made. There wasn't anything in the film that couldn't be corroborated, re-corroborated, and checked with documentation. As a matter of fact, great efforts went into culling the documentation PROVIDED ON-SCREEN for the claims being made.

D/X, the only slant I see is yours against seeing the film.

Columbine was something that interested me, but it's not as important.

The problem with liberals is that they can't seem to stick to one cause. Too goddamn scattered. We need to work on one thing at a time.

I saw it Saturday night with 2500 librarians. I won't say the crowd was partisan. OK, the crowd was partisan.

During the scene with the Iraqi bombing victim, somebody lost it big time. Someone in the audience was howling and weeping very loudly. It was weird, seriously.

Which is true. So I am not going to post my opinion of Michael Moore on this thread until I personally go see the movie (maybe you could boot leg a copy from the net and not pay him a dime, since you don't like him?).

But I will say that "Dude, Where's My Country?", which has a LOT of info that is based in this movie, was a surprising and eye opening read (which I read on an airplane *gasp*)
