I'm watching this here "tribute to heroes" telethon. Now for those of you fortunate enough to be outside the blast radius of this huge bomb, let me explain... it's a craptacular cascade of stars on a mission to drum up money for disaster relief efforts in NYC. However noble the cause, however, these folks cannot escape the stigma of awkward shallowness which dogs them every time they step beyond the narrow bounds of thier own dubious talents.

This vapid crapstravaganza makes a mockery of my heartfelt pain and rage. Do the people watching in weepy-eyed, starstruck hypnosis realize that the Dixie Chicks evicted a founding member because she was too old? Just look at this cavalcade of shallow bastards, worshipped by a sea of slackless consumer drones. I had been deeply moved by the tragedy of Sept. 11. This steaming pile of monkey-crap threatens to ruin that for me.

Fuck you, Limp Bizkit. "Wish You Were Here" would have been a perfect song for the occasion for anybody with ears to listen. It did not need to be "re-interpreted". Go back to your home-boy "rockin' th' house" frat-boy lyrics.

Eat a bag of shit, Bon Jovi. Go pressure your band members into having more liposuction.

Argh! That skinny bitch from Ally McBeal is on, too! It's too much. I just wasn't born with enough middle fingers for this!

My wife in her infinite wisdom rented a couple videos today, so we were spared the sludge-fest. I think I'll keep her.

It suddenly occurs to me that we're being too hard on the putrid pile of arse. Just because a bunch of folks do things they shouldn't for a good cause and watching it makes you want to rip out your eyeballs with a tetanus-encrusted fishhook, it's still a noble cause. For that reason, I announce:

Special Event Comic Exhibition 1

The rules:

  1. Your comic must consist of stripcreator charactors exercising their talents for the cause of the victims and rescuers.
  2. There is no end date to SECE1. There is no judging. There are no winners, save for those who post and/or read truly funny comics.
  3. Anyone may instigate SECE2 when so inspired.

Yep. End of thread.
Don't fall into the trap of this common misinterpretation of Godwin's Law. Folks think the mention of Hitler/Nazis signals end of thread, but the Law does not view it that way. Rather it simply sees it as a natural, inevitable degradation of the discussion. The signal/noise ratio by that point is probably sufficiently lousy that the thread might as well be over, but that in itself is beyond the scope of the Law.

Also, it originally was supposed to be comparative in nature. When an argument had degenerated to the point of "Well, if you think that, then you're some kind of Nazi."

Though there is an addendum saying that a mention of Nazism or Hitler would inevitably steer the conversation away from its original intent. Here, however, I think a mention of Godwin's law served to do that. Irony.

Wow.
I said something negative about this crapfest on IRC and people jumped up my ass about it.
While admittedly, that felt good, it was annoying to have people all over me because I was annoyed by this. What, two hours of CRAP, on every goddamn channel? Even going to Satellite didn't help you escape it, as the only channels not featuring total crap "music" were crappy channels anyway. What's funny is the fact that M2 or VH1 (can't remember which) was actually going on with regular programming!

If anyone wants to hear some decent music dedicated to fallen lives, check out Iced Earth's "Ghost of Freedom" off the new album, Horror Show. It might even bring a tear to your eyes.

Also, why have Nazis become the bad guys for everyone? Is it just politically incorrect to call the communists bad guys? National Socialism wasn't ideologically about racism in any way. And despite it's name, it had nothing to do with Socialism. Nazi high officials didn't represent an entire people, just as George W. Bush doesn't represent all people in a Democracy. National Socialists, or Nazis, means anyone who lived in Germany at the time. Anyway, have fun kids.

Also, why have Nazis become the bad guys for everyone?

They launched an aggressive war which cost millions of lives.

They exterminated over 6 million Jews, Gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses, and homosexuals inside of a few years by murdering them, stripping the bodies of their valuables and gold fillings, and then burning the corpses to ash, or bulldozing them into lime pits.

They ignored the Geneva convention and tortured several hundred thousand prisoners of war. Many of them to death.

They went into Jewish communities all over Europe, stole their belongings, burned their homes, murdered the elderly, tattooed the rest, and shipped them off in railroad cars to work themselves to death or be
gassed.

They stole works of art, gold reserves, and other valuable assets from several governments that they had lain waste to, and most of these items have been unrecoverable by their owners, or their owner's heirs.

They did this in the name of genetic and racial superiority.

This all happened less than 60 years ago.

Aside from that, they were just regular guys.

:- )

The leaders are the ones who commanded those acts to be done. Nazis were no more about killing than communists were. You know why people were willing and ready to kill the people you talked about? Propaganda. The same reason hundreds of americans are all ready to go blow up Pakistan. No, I'm not morally vindicating Hitler, the leaders, or the soldiers who followed their orders, but the soldiers for the most part were just as much patriots for Germany as ours were for America. There are many ways to get some real facts, and one that you may want to look up on is the 6 million figure. Several people were killed during World War II, and there are some facts that seem to slip through the History Books. For one, the Jewish leaders had declared war on Germany before the 'Final Soloution' had been brought into play.

Furthermore, any 'Geneva Convention' ideals are for those who want to follow them. Did the Viet Cong follow the Geneva Convention? Nope. Did Communist Russia? To my knowledge, they broke or bent the rules several times. Stalin is just as guilty of hate crimes and war crimes as Hitler was.
Furthermore, when did numbers matter? Who cares if a hundred or a million people died at the hands of a dictator? Does a smaller death count make a man less evil? I don't think so.

Also, do you think our internment camps for the Japanese during WWII were much better than Nazi camps? At least they weren't under a false pretense. Yes, I think America was wholly justified in nuking Nagasaki and Hiroshima, I also hate killing on racial reasoning.

These days people refer to just about anything restrictive or inhuman as "Nazi", what about the communists? The communist state was far worse to live under for EVERYONE than the Nazi government.

Think what you like about Nazi Germany, I personally don't care either way, as I have no way to prove the facts, pro or con. Just realize that calling something 'Naziesque' is being very trite.

In the end, I'm not a neo-nazi, and don't hate any specific race. I'm also not trying to make Nazi Germany look good, but with 60 years in perspective, I'm simply trying to point out some incredible new possibilities, including the idea that maybe we shouldn't pass judgment, when the Americans never even got a chance to survey the place before Russia jumped on it. Who first suveyed the death camps? Russia. Who gave first reports on anything after that? Russia. Do you really trust Stalin?

And the people living in communist China aren't communists, the people living in the US aren't Capitalists.

The Taliban is not the same as the National Socialists. All I'm saying is that there are more bad people than just the Nazis, and I think the constant Nazi referrences add insult to injury when it comes to the German people. That's as much of a part of history they want to foget as slavery is to us.

You think the people of Germany had much of a choice about their government standing?

Bah.

Do you believe the American/Allied soldiers who liberated the Buchenwald, Dachau, Mauthausen, and Nordhausen concentration camps?

Do you believe the British soldiers who liberated the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp?

Do you believe the French soldiers who discovered the Natzwiller concetration camp?
