I've been thinking about doing a themed character set with a consistent look, and two ideas have struck me as good, so I plan to do both.

1: Religion set
All the major religious figures, sitting cross-legged on clouds, probably just one pose each, maybe two just to add a bit of versatility. I'm thinking a bearded-old-man style God, a non-crucified Jesus, Buddha, Zeus, and the Flying Spaghetti Monster, plus any others that people think of. Also in this set would be a few "Hands of God" - pointing, giving a thumbs-up sign, maybe a couple of others, plus a lightning bolt prop, and (of course) the Flying Spaghetti Monster's Noodly Appendage.

To flesh it out, I would also draw a handful of new backgrounds: a general cloudy background in the same style as the characters, as well as the Peraly Gates, a radiant "god on his throne" type of pic, and maybe a full-width Flying Spaghetti Monster, radiant in the clouds.

Feedback? Suggestions? Rotten fruit?

2: Politics set
I'm not a real political cartoonist, but I'd be willing to have a crack at drawing reasonably recognisable international political figures, again in a consistent style so they all look good together. They would include the obvious ones, plus some lesser-knowns: Bush and co (Cheney, Rumsfeld, Condi), Bush main opponents, Blair (and maybe the current British opposition leader, whoever he is), and the Aussie PM and opposition leader (John Howard and Kim Beazley). In news that will please those looking for a more serious style, I will try to do serious-looking caricatures, rather than silly exaggerated ones.

Anyone else that should be included? I'm a lefty, but in the interests of fair play I'll draw up left-wing politicians as well for the SC community's obscene pleasures. If it's someone I am not likely to have heard of, though, please do your own homework and give me some good photos to work from.

Oh, as for matching background, I could only think of two: a blue curtain and presidential seal for press conferences, and some kind of UN background.

Can you do an elephanty-man for Ganesh? Or a multi-armed Shiva?

For the religion set, some kind of Confucius or Lao Tzu figure would be good (to represent either Confucianism, Taoism or both). I really like the idea!

Both suggestions taken on board. Thanks.

Hmmmm... Hinduism... Who would work best: Krishna, Ganesh, or Shiva?

For the religion set, don't forget the meatballs!

For the politics, we probably don't need the US Seal too urgently. The American Flag background, even if not exactly right, conveys the same things.

Oh, and famous past politicians. Churchill, Hitler, Gorbachev, Khruschev (wielding shoe), Mao. Lincoln, Genghis Khan, Victoria, maybe even Idi Amin.

Old politicians would be great, and so would new ones... especially Dubya and Colin Powell and all them.

Also

I don't like the idea real people. There are plenty of other web sites you can use if you want specific people.

Actually, as long as I'm ranting, I love most of the new art that's been coming recently, but some of the stuff is just useless. If bandwidth is an issue, quality control would be a good idea. (If not, then just put whatever art you want up, I guess.)

Since religion and politics are my two favorite targets, I am a big fan of this idea. I have one slight concern with the idea of specific, current political figures, though. Probably not a big deal, but I`ll throw it out there anyway: How long can we expect certain people`s images to stay relevant? In a few years all the major world leaders will be out of office and a whole new group of people will be in power. Do we just keep adding more and more political characters?
Maybe it would be better to have less specific characters loosely based on particular public figures. In other words, Character X might be Dick Cheyney, but in a few years he could also be used to represent whichever other creepy old white guy will invariably be taking his place.
Then again, maybe I`m just misunderestimating the impact these people will have on history, and Dubya jokes will still be popular 20 years down the road when all our kids are on stripcreator making 3-D animated talking comics and bugging Brad Jr. about letting boinky33 come back to the site.

Sure, some of it really doesn't have a use. But the fact is that you can only use the same characters for so long before they become stale and old. I equate the principle to breathing in a plastic bag (overlooking the fact that putting a plastic bag over your head is just plain stupid anyway). Eventually you exhaust the air supply in there; the only way to continue is to let fresh air in or leave the bag. If Stripcreator is said bag, I don't want to leave, but there's only so much that can be done with the Kaddar and DexX's stuff.

So we have to sift through some proposed art and weed out a few useless images. I'd rather take the time to do that than grow bored and tired with the site and leave because there wasn't any more I could do.

Well, I agree with Externalization about making generic looking politicians. Like he said, there's no telling how long specific characters will stay topical, but Pasty Old White Guy #1 can be used over and over for a variety of characters. We already use the cowboy for GW, and the Host image from Kaddar looks enough like Slick Willy that he can be used the same way. We need multi-use characters, not so much specific politicians.

The religion set sounds really useful. Make sure to include some Cherubs that can also double as cupid. And the Virgin Mary would be nice too. And some Egyptian gods with animal heads (they could also be used in Stargate parodies). And for Buddha, you should have both a Siddhartha and a jolly fat Chinese man, like the statues at Chinese resturants. Maybe some sort of Goddess too.

I agree with the other people who said that the politics one might not be timeless enough to be worth doing.

What I would like to see:

A car background complete w/steering wheel and characters already embedded in the bg, we can use the height1 & height2 for speech (this idea has been brought forth many times before)

Since Texas Hold 'Em has now become the national sport here in America, I'd like to see some kind of poker table split in half w/one person sitting at it, kind of like the blue, blonde, etc characters in the Kaddar sitting at a computer. Combine both sides and you have a table, granted there would only be 2 people sitting at said table, but still...

You know how we have the guitar player, right? I'd like to see a drummer, and a keyboard player. Maybe a bass player too.

A stereo prop.

Oh, and more characters talking on cell phones.

All brilliant ideas, but this one in particular. I always have trouble working out what each character will be doing with their hands; there's only so many normal looking poses.

Any other ideas for what common things people could be doing or what general objects people could be holding?
