Well, my main email provider and the one I use for 'official' stuff, mailandnews.com, is shutting down. Can anyone recommend a free provider that has a lot of storage space? Mailandnews had 10 megs, which was damn handy. So far, the best replacement I've found is beer.com, with 5 megs...

Freedom2surf.net has 10 but they go down like a cheerleader.

My Yahoo account has 6 MB. I got it years ago; I don't know if newer accounts are any different.

Ok, so apparently it's now 4 MB. Maybe I got grandfathered in, or something.

Oh crap. I'm in the same boat, because I also use a mailandnews.com address. It's the one I normally use in webforms and also use with this site, because I use its advanced filtering capabilities to screen out spam. While I do have several other email addresses, I will still need to replace my mailandnews address, because it is the one I intentionally use for spam trapping. What I liked about this address was its advanced filtering capability, its 10 megabytes of space, and its POP3 access. Does anyone know of a free email provider with those features?

Anyway, in case NeoVid isn't looking for exactly the same thing as I am, let me point out some good sources of email addresses. If you've graduated from college or graduate school, you may be able to get a free alumnus address that should be good for your whole lifetime. Another possibility is to get an address based on your name, either by registering your own last name, as I have done with mine, or by renting an address from whoever has already registered your last name. Either option is good for a good, permanent address, though the second option costs some money.

Well, I've tried Eurosport, but theirs doesn't work for me, since it requires opening new browser windows, which these extremely low-quality library computers won't let me do. Freedom2surf looks like it'd work... if it would let me join.

So far, looks like Beer.com is the best one...

I keep meaning to get off my butt and get a web server up and running. I think I'm gonna do it, but I'm going to wait until after we move. Then I need to pick up a new PC and I can turn my current desktop into the server. Then I'd give all you bitches email accounts, and maybe even web space to boot.

I need to get it up soon, though, so I have somewhere to put the kiddie porn.

It's not free, but I've been using www.netidentity.com for my mail, as I used to change ISPs a lot.

I appreciate it, but since Mailandnews is going down on the 28th of this month, I'm betting you won't move fast enough.

Then again, if it won't take too long after that, I could just move all the stuff I have in storage at my Mailandnews account temporarily to my other account, and then move em to... whatever you'll call your provider once it's up.

I began replacing my mailandnews.com address with a few more specialized addresses today. I'm now using a bigfoot.com address with this site, and it forwards mail to a zzn.com account I read with Eudora. Both accounts do serious spam filtering, making it a good address for letting appear in mailto links. I created a separate zzn.com account for subscriptions to ezines. This one is set to filter out every address except the ones I'm expecting ezines from.

Hey, if Gabe does make a domain, what'd it be called? Felchmonkey.com? Imhavingan.org? Raaar.net?
