I have broken my 60+ contest losing streak a wee bit too late for my last CC idea to make sense: a holiday themed contest. But I'm doing it anyway.

The rules of this one are simple:

*Pick a holiday. The comic must be about the difference between what that holiday is supposed to mean, and how people celebrate it.

*Someone with mythical/religious/legendary connections to a holiday must star in the comic. Bonuses for being creative and not using Jesus.

45071

That's all. Judging should be Thursday afternoon.

P.S.- I thought Big Evil Dan's and djsparkdog's second comics were really good. :-)

I just want to point out that the information about Samhain and Druids in this strip is inaccurate. Here are some links on the truth about Samhain and the Druids:

The myth of Samhain: Celtic god of the dead

Celtic Druidism

Who were the Druids?

Basically, Samhain is the name of the holiday, not the name of any Celtic god of the dead. Its name means Summer's end. The charges against Druids of committing human sacrifice are very suspect, and modern-day Druids do not commit any human sacrifice.

i was repeatedly beating kids in the head for liking andrew wk, i was drinking cheap student beer, i was giving out free "official loser" hugs, trying to blag a proper redneck cap for tomorrows photoshoot, getting wet and smelly, getting drowned in booze, living it up in a converted barn, drinking and smoking to excess before stumbling home about 4ish via the kebab van. hes such a nice guy

happy birthday kaufman, i hope you feel truely sorry for my liver

Fun Fact: Simcoe Day is celebrated in Ontario on the first Monday of August. I've lived there all my life, and it wasn't until last summer that I even knew it was called "Simcoe Day", let alone that it was actually dedicated to someone.

I got the info from a random site, just like the Kwanzaa strip.

I personaly don't really know in-depth to much about pagan mysticism, but as a fundie we explain it as "the devil and his fallen angels have many faces".

In England on the other hand, I hear that the number of people involved in "old" religions is actualy greater than those into christianity. Scary(to some, if saying its scary offends you :p)

Well, your random site was inaccurate. It concerns me that Christians, and especially fundamentalists, often spread negative propaganda about people of other religions. Accusing Druids of human sacrifice is one example of that propaganda. It is on a par with saying that Jews eat babies.

quote:
I personaly don't really know in-depth to much about pagan mysticism, but as a fundie we explain it as "the devil and his fallen angels have many faces".

My own explanation is the abundance of human creativity. Religious expression has naturally taken on different forms in different parts of the planet, because people are creative and have found themselves in different times, places, and circumstances.

quote:
In England on the other hand, I hear that the number of people involved in "old" religions is actualy greater than those into christianity.

That's good news if it's true. Over here in America, I'm sad to say, Christianity is still the dominant religion. Christian churches are all over the place, and my own apartment is surrounded by them. I can't walk long in any direction without passing by a Christian church. The only churches I know of that even welcome Pagans are the Unitarian and Universalist churches, and even these are still predominantly Christian or at least theist.

Scary(to some, if saying its scary offends you :p)

I'm not offended. I know how silly fundamentalism is.

Hey listen here you turd, if I can accept that you believe something is different than what I say, and am tolerant-while-holding-another-view, then it's the least you could do to SHUT YOUR HOLE.

It's also interesting to note that you believe that the variety of religions is due to "creative people" in which case you are saying that all religions are basically made up with no truth to any. If you're an atheist just say so and stay the heck out of a religious discussion cause you can't contribute much with that attitude.

quote:
...Unitarian and Universalist churches, and even these are still predominantly Christian or at least theist

These are "love" doctrines, which preach that the entire world needs to break the barriers of each religions and just accept each other's docrine. Kind of like the Bah'hi faith or whatever it is.
Actualy, fuzzy can fill you in more on what Unitarians are, but I'm pretty sure they arn't mainly christian.

Also, Pentecostals do not just go around blurting out in tongues unless they feel the move of God. Also, by having Indiepete say that "She’s not a chosen one like me" implies that he believes in pre-destination, which to Pentecostals is another false doctrine.

Whoa whoa whoa kids.....

I hate to step in the middle of this and risk getting shot at, but we DO have a religion thread already.

This a comics competition, If someone offends your faith or says something you consider ignorant, racist or narrow-minded... let it slide.

We here at stripcreator are a varied flock of sheep, people evolve differently and different religions evolved with them. That's the way it is.

Don't throw stones, and for the sake of decency if someone does throw stones, DON'T THROW ANY BACK. We're all friends (Kinda) and even if you don't like someone or their views be civil.

Or go to the fights forum and start a thread called
" Is A Big Imbecilic Pile Of Dog Shit"

Either way... mellow out a little!
