	Back in the day, on the plantation, workers would send 500-lb. bales of cotton sliding down chutes. One man, at the top of the chute, pitched; and another man, at the bottom of the chute, caught.


	Tried to, anyway. One mistake and he'd be squashed like a bug. The man at the top of the chute was a slave. The man at the bottom of the chute was an Irish immigrant, working for starvation wages.


	The slaves were at the top because slaves were property, and if injured or killed, the masters were out money.


	But if Paddy died, they could just hose off the floor and then go down to the docks and get another mick.


	I hope that the descendants of slaves win their fight for reparations for slavery.


	Can you imagine how much the descendants of the Irish immigrants would be entitled to?
