144 men sailed from England aboard 3 ships, the Susan, Constant, the Godspeed, and the Discovery. 39 men died.

The colony was on the James River. it was protected by land on 3 sides and the river made it easy for the ships to bring supplies and other settlers. there were many troubles though.
