Pocahontas was kidnapped by colonists and while living their she fell in love with and married John Rolfe. This made an agreement between the natives and colonists for 8 years.

Indentured servents came to Jamestown in exchange for passage, clothing, and food. They served for 7 years then were granted their own 50 acres of land.

in 1619 the colonists were allowed to elect leaders. The eleven settlements each chose two men (burgesses) to represent them.
