It's probably really hard to get a bill introduced then. You have to have connections and stuff.
Well, bills are introduced when they are placed in the hopper- a special box on the side of the clerk's desk. Only representatives can introduce bills to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Really? They just drop it in a box? How do you even know it's not just getting thrown away?
The bill clerk assigns it a number. Then, a reading clerk then reads the bill to all the Representatives and the speaker of the House sends the bill to one of the House standing committee.
Then the committe votes on whether or not the bill be sent to the House floor. And it's sometimes examined in more depth by experts in the subcommittee, right?
That's right! Then, once the bill is reported, it is debated by the U.S. House of Representatives. While it's debated, Representatives make changes and then the bill is ready to be voted on.
