What others say about boorite!

I've read Soul Music, Small Gods, and Reaper Man. In that order.

I liked Soul Music the best of those, I think.

Soul Music was the first one I read too, and probably still my favorite. I've read maybe a fourth of the series, I've only recently gotten into it. And yet I feel like I've fallen in love with a strange book-shaped woman with a nice ass.

I'm not really sure what that means, but it's probably a symbol of awe and amazement.

I liked the earlier books in the series, e.g. The Colour of Magic, The Light Fantastic, and so on. Lords and Ladies also springs to mind, for some reason. Small Gods is another excellent novel. The footnotes caught me most of all.

The problem with Terry Pratchett's humour is that it relies on breaking fantasy conventions -- and he's pretty much done them all already. The later books are still decent reads, but they're not as sharp as the first books he wrote.

Guys, crabby's skipping again. I shall thwap him to knock him back on track.

I read a few, decided they were a great series, and then read every DW book I could find at the library.

A few months later I realized the reason I couldn't find any new ones was because I'd read the whole series by then.

Then I found the three he'd done for younger readers and read them too. They turned out to be the kind of kid's books I think are best for kids: ones you can't tell apart from adult's books.

And yeah, the current books are a bit more serious about the setting than in the old days, but they still kick ass.

I love me some Terry Pratchett. Try reading Good Omens, the book he did with Neil Gaiman.

Consequently, Gaiman is another great author, although not as humorous. Check out Gaiman's Sandman graphic novels. They are quite unique and well-written.

*There actually was a Discworld-themed strip that was conceived in 1947. Cherrie "Hyenaface" De LaRue of St. Paul performed it one fateful night at the Pink Poodle Club. It involved mostly wizard's caps, ill-fitting chain-mail stockings and lots of nudity. Cherrie was heard to remark after its disastrous reception, "Y'all think those bastards would want some bloody MAGIC brought back into their lives. But when it ends up you really DO have a rabbit in your pocket, magic must take a back seat to simple misdirection: you have a twenty in your wallet. Now look at the floppy boobs. Now, check your wallet again. PRESTO!"
