This page on AudioGalaxy is the best list of musical styles (I don't like the term "genres" in regards to music) that I have ever seen. It is missing a couple, but it the closest I have ever seen to a complete list. Hmmmm... no "mallcore" listed... *grin*

I like almost everything, except the majority of electronica and rap, the heaviest of metal, the most vacuous of pop, and anything else which gets so bogged down in its stylings that it forgets such things as melody, chords, and general musical-ness. I'm not going to try to sort things into order, but I will list about ten styles which I like best.

- Progressive and alternative rock
- General rock
- 60s and 70s British rock and pop (especially The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and The Rolling Stones)
- Thrash and industrial metal
- Modern stage musicals (70s onwards)
- 80s pop and rock, especially compilation CDs
- Hard rock and "new metal"
- Folk, Celtic, folk-influenced rock and pop, folk- and Celt- influenced new age music
- World music, and world-influenced rock and pop
- "Classical" as it is generically known, but mainly Baroque, Romantic, and 20th century orchestral
- "Pub music", as in pub-band styled rock and pop

Not a complete list, by any means, but those groups make up most of the music I listen to.

My joke was really that "mallcore" is a derisive term - those who listen to it don't call it that, and those who call it that don't listen to it. A few different styles are referred to by that title by those who want to take the piss. :)

I'm crazy about harpsichord. The coolest thing I ever heard in my life, next to bunner playing "Jersey Girl" on piano, was the little harpsichord ditty in the song "In My Life" by the Beatles.
I love what us old folks used to call "Motown" (Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross & Supremes, Temptations, etc.)
Blues, Jazz.
Some of the more modern, less twangy country (Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, LoneStar, etc.)

Hmmm... Nowadays, I hate saying that there is a particular genre or style that I like, because it really depends on the performer. I suppose I'll go ahead and make a little list, though...

1 - Folk Metal (as typified by Storm, Finntroll, Vintersorg, Otyg (Who just broke up yesterday GODDAMMIT))

2 - Doom Metal (Most specifically, the super-anal-hate-myself-for-using-them subgenres called "Death/Doom" and "Funeral Doom.")

3 - Everything else would just come down to the individual performer. The above two styles are the only ones I can say that any given band who adheres to it stands a good chance of doing it for me.

01 - Motherfucking brilliant.
02 - Fucking brilliant.
03 - Brilliant.
04 - Quite good actually.
05 - Good.
06 - Not bad.
07 - Mediocrity abounds.
08 - Awful.
09 - Fucking awful.
10 - Motherfucking awful.
