Yeah, perhaps... but my main concerns are convenience and comfort.

I need it asap, not whenever I can scrape up the cash to get repairs done.

I need a/c, because I will not suffer without it in another car.

I need an automatic, because I get frantic and start crying when I repeatedly stall out at stoplights, which makes me mess up more. By the time 3 stoplight changes happen, I'll be ready to abandon the car.

The way it looks is fairly far down on the list. I just want reliable transportation.

When I was 18 or so, me and my gay best friend had a fantasy plan to buy a school bus, remodel it for weather and comfort, paint the outside all wacky, and drive across country picking up all our IRC friends, a la muppet movie.

We were planning to hit Minnesota, where there was a math professor I had been chatting with for a while. He was also a Universal Life Church minister. I was going to have him perform the ceremony so my gay best friend and I could get married. Then we'd take him along with us. Then we would have a scandal a few days later because I'd "find out" that my husband was gay and he'd "find out" I was having an affair with the minister, and we'd get an annulment.

We just wanted to have interesting stories about our past to tell our grandkids.

Fuck.

We got to Hastings and picked up my car and took Sam's dad out to dinner. Then we got on I-80 back toward Lincoln, and the car made a shuddering noise and started smelling weird. Then the check engine light came on. I pulled off at the exit which was coming up, and Sam pulled off behind me. The car was spewing white smoke out from under the hood. The smell was a nasty-sweet burning coolant type smell.

Sam's dad is picking it up tomorrow. I dunno if that will be fixed and I'll keep this car, or the car will be returned under some lemon law or another.

I'm bummed. I'm going to go sleep off my disappointment now.
