I find these things nearly impossible. Maybe because I'm older than the average stripcreator, but also because my musical tastes change so frequently, my CD collection is a mess of genres and bands. I'm like a musical sponge--once I decide I like an artist, I soak up every CD until I wring it out to soak up another artist.

Middle School/High School Years:
The Who/Pete Townshend (especially Quadrophenia)
Eric Clapton/Cream/Derek & the Dominos
U2
Yes
Peter Gabriel
Violent Femmes

First Half of College:
Talking Heads
Oingo Boingo
R.E.M.
The Cure
The Smiths
Frank Zappa, especially early Mothers of Invention
fIREHOSE

Second Half of College:
Nirvana
Smashing Pumpkins
Pearl Jam
Beat Farmers (what the hell is country-rock doing here?)
David Byrne
John Coltrane

Post College, 93-97
All of the college years' music plus,
Soul Coughing
Green Day
Beastie Boys
Velvet Underground/Lou Reed
Lemonheads
Miles Davis

Early Thirties, 98-01
All of the post-high school music plus,
Jonathan Richman/Modern Lovers
Greyboy Allstars/Karl Denson
Dave Brubeck
Chet Baker
Mike Watt solo
Maceo Parker
Parliament Funkadelic
Stan Getz

Now, 02-04
FC/Kahuna
Chemical Brothers
Dirty Vegas
Underworld
Kinky
Looper
Belle & Sebastian
Boards of Canada
Daft Punk
The Strokes
Beta Band
Amon Tobin
Various Breezeblocks from BBC1 I've found on the net.
...plus most of the post-college music.

So it's been a couple years that I've focused on house/electronic/techno music. I'm anxious to move on again, but don't know what's next.

I forgot, Ween rules, and Testament rocks. Baby Bitch is Ween's best song, by far.

Burnt by the Sun-Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom
It's really just a good song when something is decaying. Like American society in my eyes.

Emperor-The Prophet
Really melodic in the beginning with some clean vocals then intensifies. Good for when I'm sad.

Sublime-What I got
I like this when things are going good. I don't even listen to it that much, but just in my head.

Led Zepplin-Stairway to Heaven
Just good for anytime.

Slayer-Seasons in the Abyss
This makes me think a lot.

Cradle of Filth-The Twisted Nails of Faith
This song is good for when I am really just melancholy. I also like to listen to it when I'm mad. (I listen to it a lot)

Insania-World of Ice
Good for when I want to get away.

The Kovenant-The Sulfur Feast
Somehow gives me a good feeling of personal domination.

There's always more songs, but that's probably it for now.

yeS!!!!! but buenas tardes is a close second. both can be listened to as either funny or deadly serious. baby bitch is more serious than funny. in fact, now i don't hear anything funny in it at all anymore. it's one of the harshest unrequited love song there is.

People who have copies of them have a chapter of the ongoing saga of the "soundtrack to my life" on my swap CDs. I've never tried to do anything else with them than that.

Additionally, the soundtrack to your life can be songs you can't stand, or noises, or the sound of lawnmowers, or fire sirens, TV themese, radio plays, or your mother singing, or anything you can't express in terms of a song you can play on the radio.

PS: Umfum - Vince Guaraldi: Good Grief! Do great minds think that alike?
