Boinky's story reminded me of a time I visited my sister's family. They had about 7 dogs (there's always one dying or a new one arriving, so the number of dogs fluctuates), many of them strays who wandered onto my sister's property and got adopted by the family. One of the newest additions was a trouble-making Rottweiler, which they ironically named "Lady." While we were in the house having lunch, Lady attacked one of the other dogs, creating quite a ruckus. My sister's three eldest daughters, who at that time were in their early- to mid-teens and were sweet, quiet little Southern belles, all ran outside and grabbed baseball-bat-sized sticks and started pummeling Lady and yelling at her. It was quite a surreal thing to watch. It took quite a bit of beating it to get Lady to relent, but she finally did and skulked off. (I don't think the 'looking into its eyes while rubbing its neck fur the wrong way' thing would have worked in that situation.) Lady was very well behaved after that. So was I.

And Dr. Katz, actually, was just a bunch of stand-up comedians reeling off their act as "Squigglevision" animated characters. The psychiatrist set-up was an excuse to get them to talk about things, which, of course, just entailed doing their act.

I think it was Raymond what's-his-name (the guy who now does the Raymond show on TV) who came up with the "nice rack," line for Dr. Katz, but I doubt he's the only one to ever think of it.

I don't find Home Movies too slow paced anymore. I didn't like it the first time I saw it, and that may have been one of the reasons, but I gave it another shot and found it hilarious. I think you just have to adapt to the pace in order to enjoy what was intended, and then you realize just how ideally paced it really is.

No, by the time a dog is acting like that, it's a little late for tough love. Then it's time for what I call the "shovel to the head" technique, which your Southern belle friends had apparently mastered.

Hate to say it, but they might have considered putting that dog down. Either that, or intensive obedience training.
