Here's WFMU's worst of the '80s.
The first 5 I certainly agree with. I keep trying to think of something witty to say about them, but there are only so many synonyms for "shit."
Then we get to numero six. "Another One Bites the Dust" may itch like an impacted hunk of musical earwax, but I hardly think it deserves to share the stage with the likes of "We Built This City" and "Keep on Loving You." Say what you want about Freddy Mercury-- he was always good for a laugh, and he knew it damn well. More than you can say for these other pricks.
I am gratified that two of the songs I mentioned earlier made the Bottom 13, and Billy Joel, whom I mentioned, accounts for two more, and I had in mind fully THREE of the others on the list. That's 7 of the Bottom 13 off the top of my head (if you use creative accounting).
Regarding "Uptown Girl," I have this fond reminiscence (Reminiscing BTW is another horrible song): When I was a wee lad, we used to parody Mr. Joel's lyrics as follows.
Uptown slut
I'll bet I'm gonna fuck her in the butt
We typed these lyrics into a speech synthesis program for the Atari (SAM: "Software Automated Mouth"). It sounded much like a perverted Stephen Hawking. I think this was the nascence of Tobor.
