Scotland is the only country in the world where Coke isn't the #1 selling soft drink. We have the mighty Irn Bru, with its mystical hangover healing properties and subtle flavour of whatever the hell it's supposed to be. Truly the drink of the gods.

Ferric acid = rusting iron. Making a fizzy drink out of rusty girders is only possible if you are Scottish: it's a gift, like not looking gay when you wear a kilt.

Plus the hangover removing powers come from the chemical catalysis of adding a double vodka to it.

I got a can of Irn Bru at a local store called ScottishGifts.com.

I had heard about it in the letters page of the Too Much Coffee Man comic book. Someone brought up the point that Scotland was the one country where there was a soda that outsold Coke. He said it make them the Gaulish village of the 21st century.

I went to ScottishGifts.com to buy a sheep, by the way.

Royal Crown (RC) Cola tastes like flat Pepsi.

Lemon Coke tastes like Lemon Pledge (well, it smells like Pledge).

Vanilla Coke is okay, but kind of weird.

Diet Cherry Coke is good, but hard to find.

Fresca is pretty good, but also hard to find in my area.

If you're unfortunate enough to live near Kentucky, you might be able to find the legendary Ale 81. It's not very good; it's hard to open; and everyone seems to taste something different when they drink it. The website A Late One states:
"Ale-8-One, the soft drink unique to Kentucky, has been bottled in Winchester since 1926.

Still a closely guarded family secret, the Ale-8-One formula was developed by G.L. Wainscott in the 1920's after experimentation with ginger-blended recipes he acquired during extensive travels in Northern Europe."

The label on the bottles describes Ale 81 as a blend of "ginger, herbs, and secret stuff" as nearly as I can remember. One friend described it as "having the essence of bologna with a hint of mint." Secret stuff, indeed.

I didn't want to be predictable.

I'd say he's what I think Fred Savage looked like in those years that we didn't see him.

Throughout the southern US, available at gas stations at the ass end of no where, is the fine carbonated beverage CheerWine. That stuff is great. Sort of a cherry/Coke concoction but deeper tasting.

I heard an ad this weekend while I was back home for Mello Yello AfterGlow. I'm assuming that they're using Florida as a test market for it, to see if anyone dies from it. With a name like AfterGlow, it makes me wonder what shape the bottle is going to be.

I have found something far better; Tesco's "Kick", which is their cheap Red Bull alternative. It has just as much caffeine and taurine, but is a quarter of the price of Red Bull.

It tastes so much nastier, but it's so goddamn cheap!
