I actually cried looking at the Christmas window, that poor Snowman.

I assume it's a story of one man's struggle with his own humanity? The way I see it, the elf represents man's animal instict, the tree is a metaphor for the fact that humans will ultimately be their own destruction, and Santa represents.....uh.....Richard Nixon?
