I have six sisters and two brothers (yes, Catholic - how did you guess?) and a few weeks ago one of my younger sisters gave birth to her first child, but my fourteenth niece/nephew.

My wife commented today that she became an instant aunt when she married me.

This is making me remember fun times with my uncle. I saw him very rarely, but when I did see him, my sister and I would climb all over him. He'd say, "I love my nieces to pices!". Then I'd say, "I love my uncle to skunkle!".

Then there was the time I jumped on his lap with my shoes on and he yelled, "My pecker!" and I demanded to know what a pecker was.

My eldest nephew turned eighteen in April - I was only nine when he was born. My youngest ...nephew? Damn, it was a few weeks back, and I can't remember if she had a boy or a girl... anyway, not yet a month old.

My family's similar. Other than the four I mentioned before, I have four more nephews and one more niece ranging in ages from 17 to 24. (I was an uncle at age 2.)

I consider all of them more my cousins than my nephews and nieces though. It's too freaky to think of someone two years younger than you as your nephew.

I don't know how my youngest sister thinks of our eldest nephew. You beat her, Obi - she was four when he was born. Like you, I think she condiers him to be like a cousin. To me, is a kind of like the little brother I never had. We have a family friend with fifteen kids, and the youngest ones have nephews and nieces who are older than them. What a whacky concept...

I was thinking about that possibility as I was typing about becoming an uncle at age two before.

That would be too weird. Having your nephew teach you to drive, or having your niece buy you liquor when you're 19. We're almost entering into Alabama famial territory.

By the by, HOW THE HELL DO YOU SPEALL FAMIAL? I was thinking famial, famile or famille, but can't seem to find it on any of the dictionary pages I usually use and it's PISSING ME OFF.
