Moviestorm - http://www.moviestorm.co.uk - is looking to hire several freelance machinimators and machinima artists. Some of you may be wondering 'what the heck is machinima'? Great question.
Here is the Wikipedia definition - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machinima - but simply put, machinima is using game engines and virtual environments to create movies. You can see a lot here - http://www.machinima.com - and while many people are doing it as a hobby or just for fun, many people are making a living doing it, and one machinima series (Stolen Life) recently sold to HBO for six figures.
Using game engines and virtual environments does have some restrictions. One has to be concerned with copyright violation and trademark infringement. For example, you may own the story idea, but you don't have the rights to sell the films you make. With Moviestorm, that's not a problem. It uses game technology, but it's not a game, and you own the rights to everything you create. Because of all the built-in tools (sets, props, characters, etc), you can don't have to be 'artistic' in the traditional sense of being able to draw, and you don't have to learn to program in 3D. However, if you're more sophisticated with this medium or a related one (Flash animators, Photoshop artists, etc), you can use additional tools and software, such as special effects and editing programs.
To apply, you can show some previous samples of your work which you may have created in such games as Halo, The Sims, The Movies, Quake, Half-Life, Unreal Tournament, or others, or perhaps environments like Second Life. You can put them on your own site or a video sharing site.
Then, we'd like to see something you've done in Moviestorm, 30 seconds to 5 minutes (longer if you want). Then, create a profile and upload it to the Moviestorm website by creating a free director's page. If you haven't done anything before, but still want to apply, don't worry, make your first machinima in Moviestorm. If it's good, go ahead and apply.
When you're done, send an email to either me - Tari.Akpodiete@moviestorm.co.uk - or Ann Garner - Ann.Garner@moviestorm.co.uk - Moviestorm's Director of Marketing which includes the appropriate links and some information about yourself. Do note that while you can apply using a form on the site, a direct email to Ann or myself, will be seen much faster.
If you're interested, but not ready to submit an application/portfolio as a freelancer, no worries. Just play around with the free program and the free add-on packs. And maybe think about entering some of the contests. There are often cash prizes, and one can earn 'Moviestorm points' which can be put towards those few add-on packs which do cost a couple of bucks. The last contest (Domestic Drama) earned the winner U$1 000 (yes, a sweet grand). You can see his winning video here - http://www.moviestorm.co.uk/MSDB/MoviePageServlet?id=294 - he's only been using the program for a short while.
As a matter of fact, do take a look here - http://www.moviestorm.co.uk/MSDB/MoviesPageServlet - to see what others have been doing with Moviestorm. Click on 'view movie upload history' to see more.

Please pass this along to as many people as you like. If you, or they, have any questions, please feel free to contact me - Tari.Akpodiete@moviestorm.co.uk - I manage the user community, and I work directly with Ann. I can give additional details, including links to more machinima resources, and a ballpark amount on what the freelancers can expect to get paid.
Kind Regards.
