Sorta makes sitting at home and singing Puff the God Damned Mother Fucking Magic Dragon with your kids over and over sound pretty good.

And actually it was.

Happy new year - it can't help but be up hill from 2001.

I wouldn't even know where to begin with the cancer thing, so I'm not going to touch that. I'm really sorry to hear about your New Year.

Scarily , its the first person ive dated in ages that wasnt on a par with me for being an evil motherfucker. She was reasonably quiet , sensible , and a generally "nice" person.

I think i shall return to the one night stand scene. This relationship crap i shall leave to people who read romance novels.

I'm really sorry to hear about your bad news. Still, nice to hear that your friend's cancer is treatable - all too often they find it too late and can't do anything about it. I hope the treatment works well.

As for the woman thing, well... *shrug* Some of them are evil hellspawn, some are angels of light and goodness, and far too many are the former disguised as the latter. Still, there are plenty of nice ones around, fed up with all the bastard men they have been meeting...

Damn, that sucks, KPP. I with I had some advice other than, "Just get out there and date lot." From past experience I can tell you that it is a welcome distraction, anyway. Don't go looking for a relationship.. just have fun, maybe get laid, maybe you'll meet someone better. (The moment I stopped looking for a relationship was the moment I found the right one. Funny how that works!)

You can also enjoy yourself by experiencing the things that you couldn't while she was around. "Bah! Now I can leave up the toilet seat, belch and fart profusely, play video games all day, scratch my ass and sniff, smoke, eat fatty foods, etc. etc."

But it was really crappy of her to do that to you on New Years Eve. Not that there is any good time, but she could have waited instead of ruining your holiday. My heart goes out to ya, man.

My experiences with girls (I hate saying "women" because I hardly consider myself a "man", or a "boy" just, a "guy" I guess) have really left me a resentfull jealous paranoid bastard who spends more time questioning life than enjoying it.

I suppose, I could make that a New Years resolution, to just stop thinking about things so much.

This time last year my friend was also diagnosed with testicular cancer, he went for an operation and couldn't walk for a while, but within a couple of months he was fit and healthy. Got his girlfriend pregnant, became addicted to cocaine, got arrested, and spent the rest of the year in jail having not yet seen his daughter.

I'm sure there's a moral to that story, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it is.

No one is the lone ranger - those who have seen a part of the desert you are facing alone now surround you. All things come and all things go.

When my father found out he was dieing this... last year... he opened up for the first time in his life. He saw through his and everyone else's baggage and only saw the glimmering souls within meat sacks that we are. He remembered that he loved us and remembered how to express it. His gift was his death and the way it happened. It was good for him.

Nothing is evil, but that we make it so.

I must have led a sheltered life. The bulk of the people I've known with cancer have been elderly and not really very close to me. There was a little girl I used to go to primary school with who was in chemotherapy, but it never visibly depressed her. She was one of the more sunny members of a class replete with scowling neds. If she hadn't been bald, you wouldn't have known there was anything wrong with her. Hopefully your friend won't let this get him down too much.

And if it's any consolation, I had a good hogmanay.

Ouch.

The first time I ever lost someone was about 2 years ago. My grandfather(fathersfather), had been getting more and more sick, and was moved to a nursing home. Before, I could never have imagined him in one. I literaly saw him at diffrent points, where he was fine one week, and the next he was delerious and disoriented in a hospital, not able to recognize me and looking like a frame of his former self. On Sept 22 of that year, he died(same day as his birthday) and I had never been old enough or on the right relationship where I could have a serious discussion with him... It always was just "Hi, you're getting bigger" and all that.

But testicular cancer... Lance Armstrong recovered from that. And women, well, some people say they're like busses. Don't worry bout it(this comming from a worrier).

There was a girl who was in my year in Secondary School, she got leuikemia (Sp?) and missed like a whole year of school. While she was off, one of her friends (also in my year) dropped dead from a brain tumour (I think).

I now work with the girl who had leuikemia and she's a truly remarkable person, the fact that she was close to death means that she now doesn't give a fuck about anything. She bought a car and drove it around without passing her test, she got warned by the police, passed her test, then got done for speeding. She lost her license, but refused to let that stop her. She is one the most nicest human beings I've ever met, she only sees the good in people and situations and is very rarely ever depressed or angry.

again, there's a moral or something in there somewhere...

I guess I'm a very bad cancer survivor, then. I don't give a fuck about most things, but get depressed and angry a lot, too. I'll have to work on that, I suppose.

John Singleton would have been. But instead his obit was in yesterday's paper.

(He was a notorious rapist, limb-hacker, and murderer).

Changing the subject back, my NYE was pretty miserable as well. A fast-moving cold hit me, and all our guests were gone by 11:45. That's two years in a row of insuffriciently fun Eves. Maybe I am getting old.

Such things do wake you up. I was diagnosed with Sarcoid in 1991. It flares up now and then. I've had biopsies on my lungs and back. It can attack any living tissue but favors lungs, eyes, skin, liver, heart and brain. My eyesight has been getting worse lately so I'm a bit concerned.

But when it hit I was 32 and screwing around with computer games, beer and pot to the point of not stepping outside. A month in hospital with a collapsed lung made me realize I wanted a relationship - maybe kids. It was a wake up call. Life is finite - shit or get off the pot.

Oddly enough this disease strikes mostly women, and woman of color at that. I couldn't even get a normal white man disease! And of course since the targets are 90% female there has been very little research or progress in finding a cure. They just want me to do steroids not knowing if or how they may help. I did my own research and found that more people die from the steroids than from the disease. So I just detoxify now and then and hope for the best.

Keep your chin up and the same to your troubled friends. The worst thing for them would be the stress of depression.

That sucks, KKP. I don't have any advice about cancer, but I'll tell you my strategy with girlfriends: Last one I had, I married, so she can't dump me without doing some paperwork and getting some new furniture. Too much trouble.
