I wasn't overly impressed.
The style of the movie stuck closely to the pattern of episodes 4-6. I don't recall Episode 1 sticking so closely to it. AOTC was definitely reminscent of classic Star Wars in that respect, but I haven't decided yet if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
I felt like I needed a shower every time Anakin went into another brooding, self-centered monologue to try to get Padme to love him. It made me physically ill that it was working. I mean, I realize that the story requires that she fall in love with him, I just wish he had been more charming, to justify it.
The pace DRAGGED until the last 45 minutes of the movie. The last 45 minutes kicked ass.
As an aside, I had a lot of fun in the line to GET tickets, because most of the people there were easygoing and cool and great to talk to. I had no fun at ALL in the line to get in on wednesday night. When we arrived on line, there were approximately 40-50 people ahead of us. When it was time to go in, there were over 250 people ahead of us. That is so not cool. It's okay to hold a place for one person on line, but not for 10 people. Besides which, they were rowdy, obnoxious litterbugs who did utterly stupid things for the news cameras. I was thoroughly embarassed to be associated in any way with them.
