Okay, so the new Hitchhiker's Guide movie will never match the low-budgety, Englishter goodness of the BBC series, but I'll still (probably) go see it.

One bad thing about the trailer I saw was that it didn't contain Zaphod Beeblebrox. I'll admit I was distracted by the fact that my Tarheels (yes, they're mine and you can't have them) were playing for the National Championship, and the first time I saw the trailer I didn't know it was for HGttG, but it would have been hard to miss someone with two heads beboppin' around on the screen. Zaphod is the Galactic President, after all, so he'd better be in the damn movie.

Of course, I had the opportunity to see this trailer three months ago. I thought it was quite good, knowing nothing about the book or the apparent series other than title recognition. The persons I interviewed for the survey who were familiar with the book, thought it was too short and didn't show enough of the movie. So maybe what you're looking for isn't in the trailer but the movie itself.

Zaphod is in the movie, and I saw the trailer myself.

The only problem with Zaphod is that it appears his two heads are not next to each other as they are supposed to be. If you watch the trailer closely, at one point the blonde guy's (who can only be Zaphod) head flips back and another head pops out. I don't remember one head being UNDER another in the books, and I've read them a shitload of times.

Exactly. The CG for two heads would cost a fortune, and be really hard to act. Plus, you'd have to make his shoulders extra wide to fit it, and you'd have to mess with the interaction of all that hair. I wouldn't touch that with a 50 foot pole if I were a director.

And I wouldn't expect the movie to be anything like the book -- in the same way that the book wasn't anything like the original radio broadcasts. In a way, it's truer to Douglas Adams' style to have the movie be totally different from the books... which I'm sure it will be.

My prediction is Hollywood will dumb it all to Hell. My other prediction is that I will see this movie in the 'hood instead of the 'burbs so as not to be annoyed by Hitchhiker's fans who knit their own fucking Dr. Who scarves-- and get the colors in the right order. Something about that just bothers me.

The screenplay was written by Douglas Adams shortly before he died, so all changes in it from the books are his idea.

I doubt that he got final edit on it, and even if he did it matters not when it gets to actual production. Directors and producers have been known to change things for the sake of many things.

It's also entirely possible that he DID have final edit on it and he DID make all those changes himself. From the radio shows to the TV series to the books, there are quite a few glaring inconsistencies, but he liked it that way.

I, for one, am hopeful. After watching all the trailers, I can safely say that the film is shaping up to be pretty much everything I expected. It looks like a film that was made far from the evil influence of Hollywood. My only problem with it thus far is that I just don't see Mos Def as Ford Prefect. Everything else looks just right to me.
