I started hanging around here in January of '03, and since then I've seen some crazy changes. When I started, I really wanted to be accepted into the community because I thought all the regs (well, most of them) were real funny. I also cared about winning contests.

However, lately I've felt no urge to post, or participate. I make a few comics a week, which nobody reads, and then forget about the site until the next week.

I've had some really great conversations with a lot of you guys, and I'm disappointed with the way the SC community is changing. Let's make this site fun for the regs again (can I call myself a reg yet?) and start having fun with it. Everyone! Join the SC chat while you're here. Post your comics on RMDC even if you've been here for 2+ years! Stop posting about the state of the site with all these damn n00bs and their terrible senses of humor.

I pledge to dedicate more of my time to SC, because it could be worthwhile, but only if you guys do as well. Happy stripping.
And finally... Let me in to your little club!!!! Pleeeaaase. I wanna be one of you cool kids, with your baggy pants, and your biting sarcasm! :)

Personally, I think the community just grew so big it started to devour itself. If you're not here every single day, you forget who is who, which newbie is funny and which one has a billion other accounts all of which are just trolling, annoying alter-egos. (If anyone's ever stumbled into #stripcreator at the wrong time you'll see it can sometimes be like a fucking kiddies playground in there).

Once you've taken a month off, it's hard to pick up the same pace, the more time you spend away, the harder it becomes to jump right back in.

When you look at the little side-efforts, like the Buttonmen league or games of iSketch, The regulars are quite enthusiastic to jump in and have some fun with their old SC friends.

I just think for some it became less and less about the comics and more about just arsing around. I know I'm guilty of it, I make about 50 posts to every one comic I make, I blame it on a comic drought because if I didn't still like hanging around here, it'd be 0 posts to 0 comics and I'd be photoshopping on Fark to pass the time.

SC's up to nearly 30,000 users at the time of this post, and I think every old-school SC regular can smile knowing they probably helped a little bit in making this site so popular.

The forums may have changed, but I wish anyone who has "had enough" would still stay around and make comics, I love reading my favourite strippers and it pains me to think that they are no-longer here because the place has changed. Of course, that's probably no-where near the reason, because, like, people have their own lives where a whole shit-load of interesting and no-doubt very important shit is happening.

Anyway, dunno what I'm saying, just that probably the Donor forum isn't being used to it's full potential.

I have a lot to say in response to this thread, but I don't know how to say it in such a way as to avoid being dismissed as a cranky old geezer. For now, I'll just say that I share most of the sentiments Kajun expressed above.

That's probably because you are a cranky old geezer. :)

But yeah, I've noticed that a lot of the forums I began to frequent in their infancy became less appealing as more people joined rank, and it's not necissarily because I didn't like the people or thought myself above them. It's just that I guess I never liked a big crowd. Like Kajun said, it's hard to keep track of who's who anymore. It's like I've got early onset alzheimers...

what was I talking about just now?

As for not making comics very often anymore, I'm sad to say that I just don't feel very funny lately. I'm sure a few people may argue that I'm never funny, but that's hardly the point. :p

I have to agree with Kajun and evil_d - I've only been here a few months, but have begun to find Stripcreator a victim of its own success.

Like any community, as the number of individuals grows the diversity increases, limiting the amount of interaction one can have with the previous generation of individuals, as they are "drowned out" by background noise. It seems like you can't have a serious discussion on the forums without someone posting up a reply along the lines of "I LIKE ASS" And yes, #stripcreator seems to be best when the kids are in lessons, leaving those who want to free to talk about Apples In Stereo and whatnot.

I'd suggest anyone who has more posts than comics is showing signs of a communicative maturity indicative of an individual who seeks to benefit themselves and their community, and not of an individual looking to serve only themselves to the eventual detriment of all.

In short: We should probably use the donor forum a bit more and enjoy our old favourite's strips all the more when they're inspired to do one.

All I know is that people have been saying the site is going downhill since day two. Day one was pretty nice though.

This is not to say that there aren't real issues, but I'm not hearing or seeing what they are. And I'm definitely not hearing many suggestions on how to fix them.

So here are my questions:

1) What specifically are your complaints about the site right now?

2) What should be done to fix these problems?

You can post your replies here, private message me or email me. I'd really appreciate people taking the time to let me know.

I've never been to a site/message board that didn't 'used to be better' before I got there. This means one of two things, either I come to the board and it starts sucking immediately or, everything always looks better in hindsight. I'm thinking it's probably 20/80. I am probably part of some mass exodus of people who have discovered the site all around the same time, then everyone dwindles away and finds other boards to hassle and a few people remain and try to work and play well with others. The flipside is, things are better when the groups are small. You get to know each other better. It's much easier to do so.

When I first got here, there was a post about how no one really talked anymore because everyone who mattered knew each other already because they had been on for years. New people come and go and so do old people and eventually new people who stick around become regulars. It is Nature's way. Surely you've been to a bar that you've liked, adopted it as your 'home bar' and then some lame asses show up, adopt it as theirs, then everntually, one of you goes away and finds a new place. I did have an idea once that there should be a group of nomadic message board wanderers, who go from board to board having their way and then leaving.

I like it here. I like the regulars and I like some of the newer people who are stumbling on to the site. I still feel pretty new here myself so it's hard for me not to see a noobs view on this. Eventually the cream rises and the trash takes itself out, and sometimes the good old days weren't all that much different.

I have none really! I agree exactly with what mmyers just said.

I am sorry if my last post came across as negative, it was supposed to be more of a sociological commentary than a criticism of a specific site feature (the site is great). I don't think you can fix the way people come and go, you just have to accept it and have fun in the meantime regardless!

See you on #stripcreator.

I agree with one person here. BRAD.

These things are the same things that would happen anywhere.

As far as having more posts than comics, I think that comes mostly from writers block or just not having anything funny to make one about. I will only make a comic if I have some sort of inspiration for it. Granted, that doesnt necessarily make it funny...but you know.

As far as this thread goes...I am gonna go out on a limb (probably to be shot off it) and say:

Quit bitching, have fun, and make comics.

I never said that the site was going downhill, I was just trying to explain why other people might think that it has. The only things that have changed are the users, any other changes have been great, the PM system, the donor privelages, the upgraded view.php page etc. All fantastic changes with no complaints.

Not to take anything away from the new users, we have some excellent strippers here now. Chi_the_Cynic, ChoadWarrior, Squidrabies, Choobychooby, and there are still a lot of "old" regulars hanging around, they just don't post as often, or make comics at all anymore.

What problems? Where?

The only thing the newer community is missing are mass "getting to know you" threads. About people's ages, real names, life situations, tastes in music etc.

In my opinion, that's how the old community became so close.

Alias
not ha-ha funny, just stupid funny

Member Rated:

/me stands up. "Hello everyone, my name's Alias and yes, I'm a n00b."
Anyway, I'm extrememly new to this site, and really love the concept behind it! The creator is a genius in my book, or maybe just lucky ;)... either way want to say thank you for entertaining me.

Now onto the topic of this thread. I've had a lot of experiance with various boards/sites/irc rooms/etc. and it's my opinion the good'uns do become victims of their own popularity. Sad, but true. Whether that's happening here or not, I dunno?
But let's for the sake of arguement, say it is... so what can be done about it? I don't really know... but some really bad ideas :) are:
To create "semi-private groups". Places where regulars and not-so regulars need to be invited to post. Anyone can come in and read the posts/comic strips, etc. But to reply/post you need to be invited. Who would decide who could post and who could not? Again, don't know. Maybe allow users with a certain amount of time/strips/posts under thier belts, the ability to create these "rooms/groups". Or keep it simple and create a couple more forums, with the mods coming from the user pool of regulars. Make sure their the "always-here" hardasses of the bunch, with the ability to boot, delete, or lock anything that doesn't fit into the "rules" of that particular forum. Like spammin', trollin' etc. Name a forum "Keep it Cool" (or something not lame ;))and make for folks who are here to have fun/enjoy themselves and not mock, criticize, etc.
Another idea; Advanced ignore functions so that you can do everything from ignoring all posts from a single user. To ignoring posts based on keywords...

Not so great of ideas... and probably thought of by others. But again, I hate to see the downfall of something great, like this site!

Hey guys. I was never saying that I thought the site was terrible now, or is bad in any way. I think I was trying to say that I miss a lot of people that have come and gone, even if I'd only spoken with them briefly.

Brad, not to asskiss (ok, maybe a little) but I think you're running the site perfectly. SC.com, from a admninistrative standpoint, has only gotten better as I've been here. Kajun's right, the new features have all been really great (I've been using the PM system routinely). I tried to keep my original post light-hearted, because I don't have any real troubling issues with the community. I still enjoy coming here, and I especially enjoy coming in to #stripcreator when most everyone is gone to find mAAK yelling at dcom or Big Evil Dan about something. Just last night I had a rousing conversation with evil_d, which resulted in me realizing that this is a VERY intelligent and talented community, while still somehow remaining silly and easy-going.

What am I rambling about? I have no idea. I think that perhaps it is now harder to find your place here. All the old regs know each other so well, while us new regs know each other on a much more superficial level... I can't remember who posted it, but somebody on this thread got it right when they said what's missing are the personal topics in the forums. So, I'll start.

I'm Trippingbillee, I live in New Jersey, go to College at Haverford College in Pennslyvania, and have a three foot penis.

I am a pretty hardcore gamer, have a three foot penis, and love to write and read everything I can touch, including my three foot penis.
I make music, listen to (yes, I know, you hate me) jam bands, jazz, Radiohead, and lots of other music all over the place.

My penis is three feet long.
