I completed my first century bike ride yesterday.
My knee had been sore all week, but I thought it would loosen up on the ride. About 35 miles into the ride, I started feeling a stabbing pain that pretty much continued until the end. I thought about quitting about 4 times in the next 20 miles, but I stuck it out.
Here are the numbers.
- Miles: 103
- Max Speed: 40.4 mph
- Time: 7:24 in the saddle, 9:10 overall
- Beaten by: a 12 year old
- Calories burned 7100;
- Post-Ride Meal: carne asada nachos
- Advil consumed during the ride: 10
- Song that kept going through my head for some reason: Transmission by Joy Division
Overall, I'm happy with my time, considering my knee caused me to crawl up the hills in my lowest gears. My left leg did about 75% of the work. Other than the knee, I'm not sore at all.
My former boss and me at the finish line:

I'm wearing a Stone Double Bastard jersey--it's the only logo jersey I own. I wish I would have thought of standing in the other direction so the "Bastard" side panel would be showing.
