lool. this makes it sound like the luminiferous ether is still considered likely by physicists. in reality, it went the way of the flat-world hypothesis long ago with einstein's relativity theories.

that's what you get when you let humanities majors write dictionaries. of course if you let science majors, everything would be defined in terms of the star trek, so it's probably for the best

Was the ether for date rape related reasons or Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas related reasons?

Technically it had something to do with working on car engines. But I don't know of any instructor that says "Okay, class, your homework tonight is to take home this bottle of ether..."

Perhaps the instruction was more like, "You can't stop here, this is bat country!"
